2 brown trout, about 8 and 10" on LDO dries. Both came during a hatch in the early afternoon that lasted about 90 minutes, it was absolutely dead the rest of the day with not a sniff on a wide variety of flies, but during that hatch the trout suddenly switched on. These Usk trout are so moody! Would have caught several more during the hatch I think if not for a very strong downstream wind - no escape from that on this beat and casting upstream into the teeth of it was very difficult even with a #5/6, even impossible during some gusts. At least the downpours are over though! Lost one other decent fish of about 16" that was hooked near a tree, he got under and transferred the hook before I could turn him. It's a beautiful beat with a lot of nice birdlife - large colony of sand martins back in one bank, lovely to see them zipping over the river again. Sandpipers and willow warblers have also returned.

8 trout from 12 to 18 inches, with biggest two at about 2lbs. Lost several others (bigger) too. In fact, two each were caught on spiders, duo nymph, dry and French nymphing. A decent hatch of greenish olives at 1pm, then a good hatch of March browns from 2 to 3, with a 'feeding frenzy' of multiple, splashily rising fish about 20yards in diameter as the rise appeared to move upstream. Shows just how many fish there are in the river!

Water nicely fining down, but a cold upstream wind most of the time. Lovely hatch of March Browns about 2.15 to remind us how many trout there are in the river; but only for about 10 minutes. All my fish were on well sunk hares ear nymphs, spread through the day from 10am to 5pm.
