Although we were fortunate that the day was overcast and not too warm it was one when Mr Crabtree would have told Peter that the conditions (water clear but low with current slow - a rhyme, what next?) were not conducive to catching fish. It was not too easy fishing off the croys just past the power poles downstream of the hut. After a slow start the ghillie, Colin Richardson (what a thoroughly pleasant man) appeared mowing the bankside path (what next!). Apparently he also polishes the stiles on Fridays and gives the hut a coat of paint every other Tuesday!!

Anyway he gave us generous directions and by obeying them we caught 10 barbel, mainly small fish to 8lbs, and 11 chub to just over 4lbs mainly on ledgered halibut pellets plus a few dace on the float using sweet corn. Swims were about a hundred yards below the stile and at the foot of the island at the end of the beat. An enjoyable day considering.

4 rods on Middle Hill court for 2 days, water very low and clear and hot made it hard. 6 barbel caught and 11 chub and 1 eel, bait was as above

The Foundation service was very good as we had problems securing beats and were most helpful.

The day was hot and dry, river very low. Was not expecting too much but was very suprised to find the chub in obliging mood but only on light line and small hook with single grain of corn. 15 fish to three and half pound. As light values went down about 5pm changed to hair rigged pellet and took 7 barbel in three hours to 8 pounds. What a great day! Will be back when my arm stops aching!!

What a lovely bright cold sunny day it was with a frisky easterly wind.

When the winds in the east the fish bite least, then when my brother was back to the car away went his rod.

1 barbel of 5lb,better than nothing.

No salmon seen.
