Only 2 anglers fished. A very enjoyable day, mainly spent at the bottom of the stretch and at the top.

Load of chub 2 to 4 pounds, a few smaller barbel but my son landed his first ever 10+ so a great day. I trotted a float down from the beach at the lower end of the beat and my son was on ledger. The forecast bad weather kept the kayaks and swimmers at bay, so largely peaceful too. Most fish caught on luncheon meat.

Got there at crack of dawn and was absolutely beautiful on the gravel beach area at far end of the swim. Not a sole in sight……until about 11am when it was apparent this wasn’t private land as I might have expected for £70 for me and my son, but in fact was the local splash zone for the locals. Gazebos, inflatables, dogs, swimmers.
Became un fishable. So thought we might aswell have s swim too- which was lovely.
Water was very low and clear. Car read 37 degrees!
We moved to another peg, but conditions were against us.
Barbel was 7 1/2 lb.

Great looking beat with good access all the way along with Plenty of accessible swims. The day it's self was a disaster 3 anglers already there when we arrived and by 10AM nearly every swim had people swimming in it. So we called it a day by midday.
I know that nothing can be done about people swimming and canoeing but the other anglers, I bet they didn't pay what I paid for the day for 2 rods.
VERY DISAPPOINTING

Took advantage of after 5.00 pm booking. Never really had a lot of luck here but access is so easy decided to give another try.
Beautiful hot evening down on the "Bondi"beach stretch towards the bottom of beat.
Ladies frolicking around in bikinis made for a if .."CARLSBERG DID FISHING!!!" ....moment!!!
After this wet and wild show the fish seemed to become excited as well..
The witching hour was quite prolific with barbel coming one after the other. All coming to cheesy garlic boilies on ledger tactics.
Some good chub on the float made for a very memorable few hours!!!

It was unfortunate that my first and long awaited booking on this beat should coincide with the aftermath of storm Betty, I arrived at 05.30am, lovely still and clear morning, (not as forecast)? Nice to be on a beat that is fully accessibly by car, easy on my back and legs, i headed straight for the beach area at the lower end of the beat only to find NO beach as the river was up a meter or so and coloured, never the less i pitched myself on the grassy bank and looked forward to the day ahead. Unfortunately the river was running so fast i could not hold bottom on a 3 or 4oz lead, tried a 5oz (my only one) which just held bottom only to loose it on the second cast, it was a real struggle from there on in and lost a lot of tackle in the snags etc, I moved several times back up the beat picking off a chub or two here and there but sadly no Barbel, the fish were taken on a mix of meat & pellet with a GB feeder. (Thankfully the canoeist were minimal and no swimmers)
A superb venue and one i'd like to fish again only in better conditions, thanks again to the WUF and the Land owner for giving us great access to such a great river and all the wildlife that come with it.
I'll be back soon !
