Last day of our trip & we were determined to fish despite the river being in the fields when we arrived, fished the field below the parking space until 2pm & caught 2 Barbel, when the water had receded enough to safely access the top swims we moved & managed to catch 11 more Barbel to just under 8lbs, many thanks to WUF for another seasons fishing on wonderful Wye.

When we arrived, the river was almost bank, so fished the slacks between bankside willows, and watched the trees floating past!
Had just three chub between us, before we were advised to leave the fishery within a couple of hours, as another meter of water was expected .
Flood warnings everywhere

This was the day rains came! Arrived in steady rain which made setting up difficult. Got the brolly up and all settled in. Then ‘Pow’ the steady rain became ‘stair rods’ for the next three hours. As things eased in mid afternoon we started catching, the 5 barbel caught were all of good weight with heaviest at 9lb 4oz.
PS the next day the river had risen over 3 metres.

Very hard day although the conditions were perfect , no one had told the fish. One lost fish at around 5:30 followed by a landed barbel if about 6lb at around 6:30 so maybe whatever was causing them to not feed is starting to end?

Ross Gauge at 1.10 and rose a bit more during the day. Water temp was slightly down which may explain the lack of joy with the barbel. The chub were feeding and came steadily until 2:45 when everything switched off. Tried a few different swims and methods and Stefan was very helpful but just couldn’t get the barbel going.

Another tough day at the office in the glorious sunshine, although it was -2 when we arrived. All fish fell to pellet
