2 Pike 6-8lb from the most pikey looking slacks on lure and mackerel. Warm December day full of wildlife including the biggest Mink I've ever seen, 3 cormorants and a flock of around a dozen grebes (glad I'm not a Salmon smolt!). On the upside I did see a Kelt jump in the tail of the Vanstone.

First time fishing Middle Hill Court. River high and coloured with some debris coming down the middle though not unfishable, had to stand and hold rod all day as nowhere to put a chair on the steep slippery banks. Fished the slacker water near the bank, all fish caught on luncheon meat. One Barbel 9 pounds. An enjoyable day, will return when river is at normal level.

This is a Beautiful quiet stretch, with stunning scenery. A lovely part of the Wye. River was up and fast flowing. Really muddy in all swims along the bank (from all the rain) and a bit dangerous with the steep access. Bites seemed to come quite regularly when in the right spot. Chub to 4lb and barbel to 8 1/2lb.
There were also two mink swimming and diving on the far bank opposite us, which seemed to scare the fish off at the end of the day. With no bites coming in the evening period.

Arrived at sunrise and fished for a few hours at the bottom of the stretch. A bit of searching around the swim and 3 chub were netted before it dryed up. Moved to the last peg at the top of the stretch and so began 5 hours of nothing. Another move down river to slightly deeper water and dusk imenent the fish began to wake up. 6 chub mid water and a pike from the edge in just over an hour. Frustrating at times, treacherous banks and constant rain (the wet stuff as well) but always good to be on majestic river Wye.

Always a pleasure to fish Middle Hill and despite it being a gloomy blustery day the backdrop of late Autumn colours in the trees was a real delight. The sheep were their usual well mannered selves and moved on quietly on our arrival unlike the resident pheasants and partridges who seemed a bit edgy.....but it was firework weekend so kind of understandable!!
No action until late afternoon but the light feeding approach worked and we caught 7 quality Chub for a very enjoyable day.
