B.B. landed a kelt of 27 inches on a Willie Gunn tube and shortly afterwards had a springer of approx 15lbs. The salmon had frayed through the leader. A lesson learnt -change the leader after every fish!
R.C lost a small springer at the bottom of Vanstone Pool; the fish rose to a small gold spoon but shook itself clear before the hooks could be set.
Shortly before dark the river seemed to come to life and Ben B caught two pike, both on a bronze Toby. One of around 6lbs and the other much larger, measured at 39 inches.
Many thanks to Seth and all at Wye and Usk.

No fish caught but we are not sure we were fishing the correct beat, there was no signs to say if we were on the correct bit of river or even the correct beat. This was due to the roads around the area being blocked off to extensive road works, and no sign giving alternate route. We therefore fished a part of the river that may or may not have been part of your passport.

River was low and lightly coloured. We fished the upper part of the beat for a few hours for just one small chub.
We then moved to lower half and caught 21 barbel, mostly in the 6 to 8 lb range with the largest at 9lb, plus a few chub. We then moved back up to the upper part for the last couple of hours but only managed 1 more barbel, ending up with 22 barbel in total, pretty much equally shared between us. Additionally D caught 2 decent chub which we weighed at 5.04 and 5.08 at "last knockings". A fantastic day for the time of year - will keep us going until June!

RC caught 2 well mended kelts (9lbs and 12lbs) and one springer to BB of 13lbs. RC lost 5 salmon (one in particular was very large) and one unknown (quite possibly a Pike judging by the fight). BB lost 4 salmon. 1lbs Brown trout tried its luck at taking a large fly. All fish returned strong.

I arrived to find a stiff frost. Fished various swims, even the chub didn't oblige forcing a blank. Still enjoyed the day though.

Firstly, a word of warning, please if you do come fishing here, have a look at the track before you drive down it, we spent the first hour organising a tractor to pull the car out.
Following two days of rain the river level was up but not alarmingly so, what did spoil the day was the downstream almost gale force winds, still we carried on with not much luck, one four pound chub and a couple of gudgeon for our days efforts, but that was down to the weather rather than the stretch of water.
On a side note we did see two salmon, one about 8lb and one about the 10lb mark towards Rope pool about half way down the beat !That did cheer us up.
WUF NOTE - the map instructs parking at the end of the gravel track.

Heavy rain during the night and morning of our fishing, turned a lot colder - water relatively clear, but banks very slippery. Slow day, only a couple of chub. Will go back.
Adam and Allyson of W&U great help as it was our first time on this beat - thanks to both of you.
