First time on the Monnow - gorgeous. Mixed bag of weather - sun, cloud, warm, cold, rain and stiff breeze at times. Winkled a decent grayling from the depths and a lovely little trout on a dry. Most activity at the downstream end of the beat.

Lovely weather, 4 on nymphs, the rest on dries, hatches of olives and mayfly. Jingler and mayfly emerger patterns all worked well. Crazy hatch 8:30-9:15 on the lower beat

Hot sunny/ broken cloud water level low. Little fly activity all day but enough sporadic rising to have some fun. Most fish rising in smooth open shallower water . Very choosy! One really good fish and a couple of medium sized on size 14 Adam’s. Very few mayfly and fish not interested in them.
Then from about 7pm till it was too dark to see there were lots of rising fish. Still very choosy but managed to connected with a large number although only six more made it to the net. Size ranged from 9-14” all in great condition. Fish only interested in small fly patterns 14-18 sedge/clinkhammer/ and Adam’s all caught fish.

Warm day, cloudy with sunny intervals, slight upstream north easterly wind. A nice day on the dry flies at Skenfrith, didn't fish much of the beat as I found fish rising in a short stretch for the best part of the day. Lots of fly life on the water including, dragonflies and damsels. At around 6pm there was a hatch of mayfly, which really brought the fish on to feed.
I seem to be having problems converting dry fly takes into fish in the net this year, I missed/lost far more than I caught.

Low water as per everywhere currently. Nice to meet a fellow Fishing Passport angler on the river today.
Loads of fly life today and great stretch of river with a good pub at one end, easy access and parking.
This beat is a stretch between two club waters and if I knew anyone to ask this to I would like to know if either club stock fish?
Lot of visible fish so sight fishing was as much of the day as targeting very sporadic rises that seemed to have no pattern.
Caught the good fish (pictured) on an olive and caught the second on a beetle. Missed a fish on a black gnat.
Tried many patterns even a few nymphs! but no more luck.
Most interesting of all was the abundance of fly life coming down the river with very little response from the fish.
Even though this was a mid week session it is busy with walkers as footpath runs along one side.
Lovely stretch of river and well worth the ticket.
