1 barbel at 6.5lb - superb condition fish. The day spoilt slightly by some unsavoury looking and loud men turning up about 6pm in 2 vans on the other bank. They were preparing to fish as we left but were digging out the bank with a shovel!
Anyway I caught my very first barbel and won't forget this day for a very long time.
Booking system great and very helpful to have someone to speak to on the phone for advice. Many thanks WUF.

River low and fairly clear, had a bit of trouble finding the right gate to go trough from the farm yard but got there in the end! Fished in fits and starts all day dying off as evening approached? Its a long drop to the water from the bank so a long landing net pole is needed if staying on dry land, our 10 foot handles being just long enough. Most bites to pellet feeder, quite a few anglers on the opposite bank, still a great day on the Wye, many thanks WUF.

Fished from the croys and on the beach section. Just the one barbel. Tried every method we knew but couldn't find the fish today. Day 3 of 3 - had a wonderful time on the beautiful River Wye. Do we all really know how lucky we are to have this river and to have the fishing managed by WUF? Thanks to all at WUF, we'll be back.

The major difficulty of the day was the amount of dis-lodged weed floating through the swims in large and small rafts, making some swims unfishable. The day was overcast with some rain. The fishing was better than expected and not many canoes went through. Unfortunately, the farmers diesel pump was extracting water from the river until later in the day disrupting the tranquility.

2 of us arrived at Whitehouse late and fished from 7pm for 2 & 1/2 hours. Had 9 barbel up to 8.5lb, lost 2 plus 1 chub. First 3 fish in first 3 casts! Good sport for a late evening session. Not many swims cut out - concrete at the beginning of the beat or 2 swims at the end were only suitable access.

Boiling day. 6 good chub, all between 4-5 and 1 Barbel about 8lb. Big framed fish but pretty 'hollow' from spawning.

Drove across the field towards the smoke from the infamous pump at 1300. The area adjacent and upstream was being strimmed and I was allowed to drive up the bank to the top of the beat to find a quieter spot. There are accessible swims and I fished meat with a feeder until 17.00. The only catch was a very big eel.
AT 17.00 I decided to chance the area around the extractor. The noise is bearable but being upwind of the fumes is rather unpleasant. Three good chub (around 4lb) were landed on pellet but not until after 19.30 when the pump was switched off. Two barbel of similar weight to the chub were lost in the shallows just in front of my net.(River very low and clear) This is an idyllic spot when it is silent and the number of salmon leaping and the abundant wildlife remind you why you fish the Wye.

A complete blank on day one. The water was very clear and you could see the bottom across most of the river. I tried baiting several spots and found no fish. Martin lost a chub of about 4lb at the net.
I have to say that when I arrived at 09.30 there where 9 other anglers on the far bank taking up a number of swims and driving up and down the river bank. As I booked late I was also aware of an abstraction pump which the description says "Occasionally during dry periods an abstraction pump maybe in operation on this beat for 2-4 hours per day." This was on at arrival at 09:30 and switched off at 20:00. To make matters worse a further pump is situated upstream on the far bank which was on constantly. Be aware of this when booking. It is unlikely to be a stretch to which I will return. This is not sour grapes because of the blank - as a angler I expect the blanks - I don't expect diesel fumes all day.
