1 Brown trout and 1 Grayling on a red neck ptn at the start of the day. Then at 12:30 a hatch of March Brown and LDO started and then the wind picked up and put them back down. There was an occasional fish rising so I put a very delicate small dry fly with cdc wings which was smashed on the first cast by an 8 inch wbt. Unfortunately the fly was destroyed by the trout so I had to compromise and use a similar fly, without the same result. The March Browns and LDO’s continued to hatch sporadically throughout the afternoon until we left at 4pm.
Final tally was 3 Grayling and 5 Brown trout, it was a pleasure to take fish off the surface again, happy days!

River gin clear and falling. Good hatch of flies around mid day with a few fish rising but cold downstream wind didn't help.
Still a nice day to be out on a nice beat.

Nothing seen or touched. Good hatch of March browns from lunchtime onwards. Also a hatch of 6 canoes which played around in the pools for a good hour, before they disembarked at upper heirag for a walk along the banks. I pointed out the voluntary agreement, and the line on the gauge, and that they were on private land, but they weren’t bothered in the slightest.

After yesterday's comedy of errors that was my Abernant debacle, I don't think I've ever been so pleased to see a 10" spotty! Golf can wait! Chatting to a couple of the natives they were both of the opinion that there was still too much water in the river for good Grayling fishing, having struggled for bites this weekend I can bear that out. However, I now at least known what the river looks like when the gauge is showing 2'at Llansteffan. So a little grist to the mill and I still enjoyed a couple of days in beautiful surroundings, hardly a waste of time.

With the river higher than preferred - well over 2ft at Llanstephan- conditions weren’t really suitable for fly fishing but, with a window of good weather, we gave it a try. The level and pace of flow prevented us from getting into the best positions and no fish were caught. Will be back once the weather improves and the level drops.
