Atrocious, strong and very cold north east wind. However, did not feel cold, as wearing six layers of clothing! In between gusts, we did manage to straighten the leader properly, and were rewarded with 5 fish for the day. Both of our hats blew off at least once! Our fish were taken on Deer hair sedges, or small nymphs. There was a good hatch of blue winged olives, among others, which the trout had to be very lucky to get a chance at, as they were being snatched up frantically by scores of swallows and sand martins, which all added to the day's interest. Another enjoyable day on the Usk!

Strong north wind making casting awkward. Good fly hatch, with numerous large dark olives. Several fish took the dry fly, but failed to latch on. Finally, caught two three quarter pounders, in water less than welly boot depth. We have noticed, that on the Usk, fish seem to be very happy to settle in very shallow water when feeding; so my advice is to approach the water very quietly, and start fishing well back from the waters edge, as several times we disturbed fish by overlooking this!

River above summer levels but clear. Quite a few flies about and caught most to rising fish on dry fly, biggest 16in.
Great to see such a well maintained fishery with sturdy stiles and bridge. Will definitely be back.

Beat:Dinas
Fishing:Trout (River)

As usual this beat produced a good quantity of trout, sizes ranging between 8oz and 2lb 8oz. Both dries and nymphs took fish. Best flies were Adams, CDC's, Hares Ears.
A warm and mostly sunny day saw good numbers of large olives hatching on and off throughout the day with some very large ones coming off in late afternoon.
The moderately fast water seemed to produce the most fish.
An excellent day.

Very warm (20-22C)and sunny with almost cloudless sky for most of day. Upstream breeze. River low and clear - water temp 14C. Light hatch of olives in late morning. Caught 5 on dry upwing Adams size 14. Best fish 1lb 6oz. Smaller, rather than larger fish moving. River needs refreshing. Hopefully the forecast rain will help, as the dry conditions not good for insect life.

I didn't start fishing until about midday. No fish rising on this fabulous beat so started fishing French Nymph style at the very bottom. First 3 casts produced 3 WBT, 2x10 inches and one beautiful 17 inch specimen. However, just as quickly as the action started, so it finished. Not one other fish fell to me all afternoon.
