Fished Abercynrig in the morning and Dinas pm. It was a tough day with little showing until a short mid-afternoon hatch. Two trout (one nymph one dry) and a lovely part of the Usk to spend a day. Thanks to fellow angler Ian for the photograph.

I booked Dinas and Abercynrig together. Overcast and showery in for an hour or so in morning then fine rest of day. Slight windy. All fish caught on French leader

Enjoyable day fishing both Dinas and Abercynrig. Reasonable flush of small upwings during the morning but sadly little interest from the fish. All fish caught from faster water using either traditional upstream nymph tactics or Klink & Dink. Nothing huge with a mixture of palm of your hand sized stuff to the occasional fish around the pound mark. Good fun!

The water was carrying some colour, and had just the right height to allow easy wading. There were some sporadic rises but nothing could be tempted to dries, so weighted nymphs proved to be the order of the day. Fish were taken in the faster runs, and most were nudging the 1lb mark. All were in good condition, and all safely returned.

Booked both Dinas and Abercynrig. Arrived at river to find a dirty spate. 1 trout, only, on nymph on Dinas and another on Abercynrig, also on nymph (see Abercynrig return). AT 18C, WT 14C. Generally a pleasant mild day

Ideal day with little wind and overcast but no fish

Had booked 2 rods on Abercynrig and 2 on Dinas, swapping round half way through the day. Started out with high hopes as it was a lovely day but somewhat disappointed with the outcome. Not sure what the problem was - perhaps not fishing the nymphs deep enough - but it was hard fishing. Tried dries (more successful later in the day) and nymphs on both duo and French leader. Nothing big was caught although 3 larger fish were hooked and lost on dry sedges in rougher water.

Water high but clearing nicely. All fish on dry fly in sustained afternoon hatches of various upwings. Best fish 18”.
