Beautiful day out in such a wild place with several splashy bites to sedge hogs and one lovely 10inch brownie taken on a orange nymph with slow figure of eight retrieval. Difficult getting around the edge due to boggy conditions but a wonderful day out and the weather was pleasant mild overcast with some sunny spells and light wind. But more ripple might have helped as once wind dropped a bit the surface action ceased. I only managed to fish the bank with the Christmas tree. My first trip here so I will be back to have another crack and hopefully give the other bank a try

The forecast said "gentle breeze". It was not gentle! The wind was so strong I struggled to stand up at times! I persevered, having to double haul my 7 weight just to get out 15 - 20 feet into the frothing white capped water. Then, halfway through a double haul, the rod I've owned for 35 years snapped as I cast!
I gave up.
Am I the first person to blank on this stunning water?

As mentioned previosly arrived to the parade of dead sheep along the path to the boat house - A day of rain and wind could only fish for a couple of hours managed 8 WBT to small black wet flies bibio's etc. I had to leave early just as wind stopped and Bugeilyn was like a sheet of glass dotted with rising fish a stunning view,

small dry flys , black spider , daddy long legs, Adams , etc , weather was sunny ,mild wind, fish on top feeding , so plenty of takes, all fish returned, brabless hooks used , so all fish unharmed returned straight way .
Noted road way to water loads of dead sheep very unusual to so many in one place littered around farm sheds before , old stone buildings on approach to water .

Well , as I pulled up to the gate to do the combi lock to cross the moors to Bugeilyn, I was greeted with squally winds , dank, drizzly rain …reading twelve degrees in my truck too … jeeeeeeeeez I thought , it’s going to be a dismal day at one of my favourite stomping grounds !!!!!
But, as I tackled up, selecting two of my favourite wets for here, I had a mug of coffee from my flask , I could see the wind eddying and changing direction in the valley , kicking up different wave patterns on the Llyn …. Looked hard going …. Anyway, onwards …. Starting along the Chrimbo tree side !!!! Good sport there to be honest , even with the pokey wind ….. hitting the wets hard , great stuff !!! A slow retrieve was what they wanted today mind ..usual stamp of fish for here , some twelve inch beauties in the mix too .Rang the changes and also fished a single big bibio sedgehog on a long leader , effective too, and some lovely savage hits too it , just fished close to the Lilly lads … gotta have your wits about you and steer fish away quickly to get them cleat of the Lilly stems ,and thick rhizomes …
Managed nineteen crackers to the net , also a lot of long range releases, mainly with the big dry at range , oh well, such is life … lol !!!The wind certainly kept me on my toes , changing direction there or four times during the day …. Gggrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! Good exercise though …….
Another fantastic day in the hills , on a favourite Llyn, give one of the Elan lakes a bash Sunday , and hopefully a wild stream end of the week…. I hope the weather stays reasonably kind, as I have a client for two days up in the Elan Valley next week …anyway, I packed up at three, some lovely sport today and nice to get a good few on the big dry sedgehog …. Great fun ,back home and a large Baileys coffee to warm up I think !!!!!!!

Well ...A RED LETTER DAY, BIG TIME !!!!! . a superb day on one of my favourites ... as I unlocked the gate up by the road, at half six this morning, I knew it was the perfect weather, overcast cloudy with a good south westerly wind, perfect !!!
Over the last twenty of so years fishing here,I know when it's just right , and today was one of those days!!!
Kept on the move here, fishing mainly the Christmas tree bank and at the top end ... just a word of warning if your not used to here, take care on the top boggy end ,many many moons ago, I went through the moorland " crust " into fairly deep water !! Know what vegetation grows over watery terrain and if in doubt go wide or back round, via the boathouse .... stay safe !!!!
Ohhhhhh while I remember interestingly saw the osprey.... been three years since I've seen one up here ... I know they have a site at Llyn Clywedog for a breeding pair that comes regularly ...
Anyway ... like last week, sublime fishing and I fished dries too , my usual deadly patterns for here with a good ripple .... lovely aggressive hits too it !!! Hard to beat in fairness... just thr best of Welsh llyn fishing .... fish sizes were between eight and twelve inches in a frantic tally of thirty seven , I did have a few long range releases to on the dries .... still great fun ....
Looks like rain over the weekend, which is a shame, as its Rhayader carnival day on the Saturday , so will have to take refuge in The Crown or The Eagle's..... think it could be a boozey one !!! A fabulous sporting day up in the moors .... lifes rosey sometimes hey !!!!

Four of us fished the left bank, in not too good conditions (wind was coming straight at us) in pouring rain. Hard casting into the wind , so after lunch fished the right hand bank.
The hill behind us gave us better shelter and between us hooked and landed 10 fish averaging between 3/4 lb and 1lb and a half. (Not massive but extremely hard fighting little beauties). All returned safe and sound.
Looking forward to coming back to this lovely little upland Llyn.

Well gave my all time favourite wild llyn another bash today..... lovely weather too when I parked up by the boathouse at seven this morning.... just perfect, overcast and a good westerly, reading 12 degrees in my truck, bit different from last year, but I'm not complaining, the last few days have been refreshing to say the least ..... spent yesterday up at the lovely Nant-y-Moch reservoir, had two dozen beauties there to the net, and three double hook ups!!!... fourteen quid all day there !!!! Catch and release too ..... I think that amount is just about right if I'm honest !!
Anyway the fishing at Bugeilyn...... sublime !! I fished two wets here, as I always do , three is just a faff about with the squally winds ..... two of my favourite Bugeilyn wets did the business......again !!! Although with the westerly it brings into play the Christmas tree bank..... only a few locations there fishsble as I mentioned last time, the brandy bottle yellow lillies are encroaching into the Lake big time .... Iooked at old photos and they weren't there four years ago !! Needs a boat and a sharp Long handled scyth ... to cut them them off deep down, before flowers seed and drop more to then grow out further !! Shame really as that bank was always really good ..... hey hoy ... where you can get a line out , there's a nice thirty yard section .... plenty of good fish today in a tally of 29 to the net, may have been a few more ... fish ranged from seven to thirteen inches .... eight really good fish early bells too ....and I had a double hook up here too, fantastic !!! the intermittent sun seemed to put them off the boil, then when the clouds created the cover , up they'd come again.... Savage hits to mainly mh point fly .... fished just sub surface eoth a hover polyleader, beds them in nicely ....
A lovely day .... wrapped things up at three had a late lunch, then a slow bimble back to The Ponderosa .....another lovely day at this hallowed location ..... must get on the Edw or Cammarch over the weekend, get my river legs back on form !!!! Haven't been on a wild stream for a couple of weeks !! So that's a must !! Out in the Elan Valley on the mountain bike tommorrow .... so Saturday hopefully on a wild stream ....... Time for a cold one at The Lamb and Flag in Rhayader I think...... Happy days.......
