A breezy and unseasonably cold day at Talybont reservoir, booked at the last minute after being washed off the Wye. Beautiful scenery and easy access to the water. The trout seemed to be clustered at the top end of the reservoir, and were responding to a range of small nymph patterns and fry imitations. Largest trout was a beautifully marked and coloured brown over 2lbs for MS. JH caught one brown over 1lb, and lost a few others. Bankside surgery required after MS got a fly stuck in his forehead - could have been a lot worse if glasses and a cap hadn’t been worn.

Hadn't fished Talybont for around 3-4 seasons so wasn't sure what to expect but was not disappointed! Saw another 5 anglers at the bottom end and went searching for some solitude and undisturbed water. 3 seasons weather-wise over the afternoon and managed 12 lovely brownies to the net, mostly between a pound and pound and three quarters. Fish came to a combination of small wets, dries and small lure.

Perfect conditions today, once the sunshine early on had been overtaken by the cloud.
Much more fly life than on my previous visit, but then it was 3/4 degrees warmer. There was a decent fall of hawthorn around lunchtime. I raised a couple of fish to a dry imitation at the top end, by neither committed (or I was to fast/slow on the strike).
Picked up a couple of nice fish in the river mouth before lunch and the decided to try up by the other river that comes in by the bridge pillars, where a couple more come to the net.
We finished off back at the top end where after about 20 mins, I managed to snap the tip of my #5 weight. I’d bought a spare, a #7 weight, and due to the height of the lake (at least a foot if not two higher than my previous visit), I put on a clear intermediate. This transformed the fishing. I had another 2 nice fish and my friend, who’s new to wbt fishing hooked and lost 2.
This lake always delivers in one way or another. Great day.
All fish came to a Captain Peacock.

Ended up at Talybont after we got washed off the river. Had 3 WBT between us all about the 1lb mark in a short session before the rain really set in. Fish took buzzers and PTN.

A nice Sunny afternoon, from the left side middle lodge with a small gold bead crane fly I managed to land two half pound Brownies, then went to the inlet area however no fish. I think the best evening option would have been to try the outlet area, as when I finished fishing I called in at the main outlet car park and walked to wards the old bridge columns, where I saw half dozen fish rising.

Horrid weather. Wind & Rain. Top end of the lake started to colour rapidly from late morning onwards. Several good fish to the net however, stuck to the road side bank. Fish came to traditional wets on a sink tip, clan chief being the top fly. Fish between 1/2lb and 1 3/4lb.
