We were supposed to be fishing the Usk at GlanUsk, but were washed off and decided to head for Talybont instead. It worked out well in the end.
All kinds of weather thrown at us on Talybont on Tuesday. Bright sun, wind, hail... Generally a nice day to be out though and although the fishing was fairly hard, it was worth the effort. A fantastic leisurely lunch helped too.
I was fishing with Tony Reddiford and we both had 17" fish, a male for him and a hen for me. There was plenty of interest: pulls, plucks and follows to keep things interesting. We both had another fish each, slightly smaller.
The fish either came to Captain Peacocks or bibios on the dropper.

beautiful if cold day on Talybont. I had a nice brownie of about 3/4lb smack a size 12 ace of spades after about 45 minutes and as I waded a little deeper to net it, I suddenly realised that I had a slow leak in my waders right at the crotch !
Managed to fish on getting colder and colder for a couple of hours and had another beautiful brownie this time on a silver invicta, but gave up by mid-day due to the freezing water soaking my essentials.
NOTE: There was a group paddling about in a coracle and another group filming gymnastics and playing music !

Fished west end north side mid-day until 3.00pm using small dark flies sub-surface; caught nothing. Cold easterly breeze but when it dropped, from time to time, warm in the sunshine. Quite a lot of flies hatching off the surface but didn't see any rising fish. Others present caught fish using buzzers.

I tangled in the line attached to the bank on wooden stick, work of poachers most likely. Location - near the car park.

Would have been a great first day's fly fishing had I packed the flies ????. As it was a useful opportunity to practice casting with my daughter. A beautiful spot and I haven't lost any tackle for once just a few quid lighter.
