Fished in the afternoon only. This was the day Bertha struck. All fish caught on luncheon meat and a were a good size. River was fast and cloudy brown. Never-the-less a great afternoon on the beautiful Wye.

I had a very pleasant evening fishing from 4pm to about 7.30pm.I fished the comfortable swim on the roadside and despite the silk weed which seemed to be covering the river bed I had 2 chub around the 3lb mark and finished with a hard fighting barbel of 4lb 8oz. I had intended to fish a little longer but the rain started so I packed up to avoid a soaking. By the time I had put the gear away in the car, the rain had stopped so spent the next 30 mins feeding the shoal of fish under the willow on the far side of the bridge. First on the pellets were the chub then small Barbel appeared followed by 3 or 4 larger Barbel in excess of 6lb. The enthusiasm they showed in searching out the pellets made me wonder why we sometimes struggle for bites!

No Barbel caught despite seeing group of 4 in middle of river from the bridge, must have continued upstream :-)
Managed to make a very enjoyable day with 14 Chub between us to ledgered and rolled meat and trotted sweetcorn. Plenty of fish rolling and splashing in shallows along far bank.

The rain at the weekend brought the river up a few inches and it seemed to stir the fish up a bit too. Meat, corn and pellet, trotted and ledgered all took fish, from the faster water at the bottom and from the slower sections near the bridge. A very enjoyable day.

Fished Foy Bridge on the Friday 1st Aug. River very low & weedy, very hard work. 2 bites all day catching one Barbel about 6 pounds. Fished Backney on the 2nd Aug, the river had more colour in it after some rain had only 2 bites all day catching 2 more Barbel again about the same size. At about 6.30pm, 2 ladys came, put their swimming gear on & started to swim right where I was fishing is this the norm?

Fished from 4.30pm - 9pm in mostly hot and sunny conditions. Tried several swims and caught in the fast water and at the bridge on meat and corn. Pretty pleased with the catch given it was the first time on the beat. Hope to return and try out some different swims and methods. Thanks to all concerned for making this beat available.

After a slow day at Middle Hill Court the day before we were rewarded with a spectacular days fishing at Foy Bridge. The river was very low and clear and after a few bites in the morning on feeder tactics and one barbel of 4lb 8oz we decided that wading and trotting would be a better approach. We indulged in some purist fishing, trotting floating crust from a centre-pin down the centre of the river. A magical three hours resulted in 25 Chub between 3lb and 4lb 8oz. Beautifu, bronze, lean fish, the River Wye at its very best. I understand that some people have complained about the WUF prices! This I cannot fathom, this was probably the best £10 I have ever spent! Thanks again WUF.

After having a good chat with the gentleman from the previous day and having seen some large chub taking bread off the surface and several barbel flashing, I arrived with great anticipation but I had to work really hard from dawn until dusk for 9 chub on day 1 and 3 chub on day 2, mostly caught trotting sweet corn or pellet through the fast water.
There was no sign of the surface feeding chub or the barbel even though I tried various methods from the available swims as I had the beat to myself. Luncheon meat only produced eels.
Blisteringly hot sunshine and clear sky probably didn't help, compared to the previous day when it was overcast with some light rain.
Still can't think of a better river to be on even when the fishing is tough, just looking forward to my next trip.

WUF note - Please adhere to the Rules and Regulations provided. Anglers are not permitted to visit the beat the day before fishing to recce swims or approach other anglers for information. WUF fishing beats are booked on an exclusivity basis. Please only attend the beat on the day which you are booked to fish.
