Water was high enough to rule out several swims but still there were a total of 6 anglers on both banks. The fish came from no more than 2-3 rod lengths out inside the crease. Pellets were ignored. Paprika flavoured Spam got their interest. (Two swims down anglers caught 3 barbel on pellets…)
Barbel nudging double figures middle of the day and a five pounder as the light started to fade late afternoon. Others were eels, one c. 3lbs.

Very tough conditions as river levels very high, between us we managed 2 barbel and 2 eels. Will be back when the levels are a lot lower!

First time here in high water had a few hours this afternoon - fished the edge of the main current with feeder and pellet on hook. Took a while to get swim going but last hour hooked 6 fish landing 2 due to forgotten reed bed in front of me that I usually stand in!! Water now dropping went down 6-8” in 2 hours should be graat next week I reckon

The river was up and coloured but dropping. The cattle drink swim is now VERY difficult to fish for two anglers. The tree on the left is now leaning over making casting very difficult and needs to be cut back. There was a feeder hanging from the tree!

This was an amazing day's fishing! With the rain of the last couple of days the water level peaked at 1.5m above previous level and with the increased current there was significant detritus in the flow. That aside, we fished the top (wooded) section of the beat and between the two of us (one angler couldn't make it), we had 12 barbel on the bank (plus 2 eels). Four of the barbel were above 9lb and were, on the whole in mint condition. The total weight was in the region of 80-85lb. All fell to hair-rigged halibut pellets. A brilliant day.
The video on the Wyastone Leys page of the website was a really great idea, something that would be immensely beneficial if repeated for other beats.
