The river was still up a bit following the weekends rain (0.64) on the Byton gauge but there were still some decent swims for trotting maggots. Three small grayling and an out of season brown trout were caught. An enjoyable day on a nice beat even if I didn't manage to catch one of the bigger grayling. Hoping to get one more trip in before the trotting season ends.

A good day to be out, best grayling was 2lb and lost another of similar size at the net. Good parking and easy walk to river. All I would say is much of the river is un-fishable due to overgrown banks and fallen trees. A few swims that are OK for trotting at the bottom end but the entire top half was impossible to fish.

Very nice peaceful beat set amongst farmland. Much of the bank is pretty inaccessible due to vegetation and fallen trees, but this does create quite a wild feel to the stretch, and given that it is quite a long bit of river with access along both sides I found enough areas to keep me occupied through the day. Parking well sign posted in farmyard and was on a hard concreted area. Walk to the river was easy across pretty flat fields. River level was still dropping and perhaps was carrying a little more colour than I had hoped for, although unsure how clear it gets in the winter as was my first time on the Lugg. Managed 3 grayling on trotted maggots, and several bumped off as well, but they didn't seem to be 'having it'. Biggest went 1lb 5oz. Would be interested to return when the river is a little lower and clearer.

21 x grayling 6-16 inches, 1 x out of season trout 14 inches, trotting. A cold, grey day, but the river is in condition. Three good ones, but grayling of all sizes turning up here, so it seems like a healthy population

The river was coloured with 1'6" visibility when I arrived, but cleared steadily and had dropped by around 4" by the end of the afternoon. One feisty 14" brown trout along with 13 grayling to 15" all carefully returned. Fun to float fish maggots for grayling with a centrepin reel for the first time. There are not so many places suited to trotting on this beat, but it is a lovely section of the Lugg and I will return to it during permitted fly fishing times.

A very slow day. 1 small grayling taken on a PTN. A shame that a lot of the beat is slightly difficult to fish unless wading. OK in the summer, less so in the later part of the year. Still, a day on the river is never wasted.

Fished using nymphs. No fish seen or caught. Tricky getting down to river as quite overgrown.

Water had a blueish colour.

Otherwise, a pleasant day out.
