River lowish and clearish
All fish on pellets. Couldn't buy a bite on the float, but a feeder in the same line produced plenty. A couple of the chub quite big, probably fives.
Barbel 5-7lb.
....and then it rained. Thunderstorms from mid-afternoon until dusk. Decidedly damp by the time we returned to the vehicles.

We were returning to Sugwas after a number of years absence, only to find that the fishing upstream from the fence near to the style, up to the orchard, apart from the beach area, was either impassable due to stinging nettles up to your chest or willows obstructing your access to the river. We went to the top section near to the Orchard parking area and access to the river was again impossible, unless you are a mountain goat, which we are not anymore, very disappointed.

River still slightly high after heavy rain 3-4 days earlier. This restricted accessible areas suitable for trotting. Banks in may places are overgrown limiting access and large stretches are inaccessible because of steep banks and thick willows lining the banks. At summer river levels, some of these would be accessible by wading up or downstream from existing entry points.

I moved around and fished three different swims, near the top, middle and bottom of the beat. Caught chub in each up to 3lbs. Had one lovely 6lb barbel near the top of the beat (just upstream of the orchard).

We only fished the afternoon and with a rising river with debris going through made it tricky, we was however rewarded with a low double figure barbel and some clonking chub over 5+ lb in fading light.
