With the river very low, the lowest I’ve fished it!! We weren’t expecting miracles. We managed a couple of good barbel and 3 chub all falling to meat in the witching hour. As always a joy to fish this lovely fishery.

First time fishing this section, the river was very low and the air temperature had dropped. Parking was very close to the river and pretty easy to find. Started at the top of section catching plenty of small chubb to 2lb. Worked our way down the section and found the bigger chub with fish to 4 and 5lb. And then two barbel one around 4lb and a very low lean fish that weighed 7lb 10.

Tough day! 1 barbel & missed a couple of timid bites. The croys seemed to have been dismantled somewhat during the heavy rainfall of Jan, Feb & Mar and I lost 3 lots of tackle on rocks under water in an area where I did not have any trouble in the past. No many swim choices on Wyebank. It could with some work to give a some access in the lower part of the beat.

Only fished for couple of hours, too many canoes, wild swimmers and paddle boards. Managed a couple of small barbel before packing up.

First time on this beat. It’s very much like the wooded section of Courtfield (next door) so ankle breaking rocks under foot and no way of getting your rod rests in!
Three of the Barbel were under a pound and the other 3lb so this section of the river is Barbel crèche this time of year.
The constant snags, fast water, lost tackle and fish mean that, to me, this beat Is perfect for a day trotting rather than the pellet and feeder tactics I tried.

4 Barbel, 1 Chub
