Planned to get there early but with a difficult night's sleep got to the bank at 9:40am. 1 barbel to Pellet feeder within 2 minutes. Then the canoes came and made casting to the gravel on the other side impossible. The weed in the middle was unfishable so trotted and caught a chub and plenty of face in the slacker water. By 4pm the canoes disappeared and got back to casting to the gravel passed the weed - instant takes and had 6 more barbel by 5pm and they would have carried on for the rest of the evening but had to pack up as my wife needed picking up from the airport. Deffo stick to turning up at 4pm next time on a Saturday.

A great day on the Wye but a busy one. I have developed a new found fondness for the boating community in light of the swimmers who walk through your peg. First week of the school hols and 30 degrees guess I should have thought about that. I still really enjoyed it but found fishing tricky with the sheer volume of boats.

I fished the downstream end peg from around 10.30 to 4.15.
Despite the hot and bright conditions, there seemed to be plenty of fish feeding. These were mainly small Barbel in the range of 1.5lb to 4lb and Chub of a similar size.
Given the conditions I was expecting it to be much harder going than it was but was pleasantly surprised by the amount of fish which fed.
Standard feeder and pellet accounted for most with a couple of the Chub being taken on meat.

A nice big eel ! Plus some small barbel and bigger chub. All on meat, they wouldn't look at pellets...
Lost a few to hook pulls. Nice day, water carrying a earthy tint. Usual out of control Kayaks, had to help a couple of ladies..... highlight of the day.

Having had numerous visits before it was my delight to bring my son Jon for his first barbel fishing adventure. Conditions were perfect for fishing the lower pool. The river had a tinge of colour and was 10” above summer level. Jon caught his 1st barbel 8lb on his 4th cast and continued to catch using red robin pellets and a feeder fished 2/3 over toward the end of the the pool.
I decided to get in the river to freeline and roll meat through the pool with great success, the bites and fights were great fun, I highly recommend it for the more adventurous angler. So 24 Barbel to 8-8lbs, 15 chub to 5-5lbs
And 4 big eels later were home and tired and I really couldn’t have asked for a better 1st trip for Jon.. thanks to Don as always , it really must be the most prolific beat on the Wye. See you in the autumn for the big girls..

Fantastic days fishing. Total of 15 barbel caught trotting and just 1 on the deck. Lot's of chub and some large dace also caught. Biggest barbel was somewhere around the 8lb mark with most being between 1-3lb. Really lovely fishing and for anyone wanting to catch barbel under a float I'd have to say the beat is perfect.

After Saturdays slow session I was hoping that the fast moving water of Wyebank might be where all the fish were hiding. We got off to a good start having a couple of Barbel early doors before the boat traffic. That was sadly my only Barbel of the day. My friend managed to do better than me and had 4. We both fished the boat pool and had a lot of problems with weed on the line. Was still a very enjoyable day but couldn’t help but be a little disappointed seeing previous catch reports.
