Second day of two days and a lot better weather for sitting on the bank. The river dropped slowly during the day and I fished two sessions, one first thing in the morning the second in the evening, thereby avoiding the canoeists. Plenty of fish caught with a specimen barbel at 10lb 5oz the highlight of the day. Saw Don on both days, always a pleasure. It is worth mentioning that a fair amount of work has been done to improve the access and provide more swims.

This was the first of two days on this stretch. Unfortunately didn't start fishing until about 17:30 but no canoeists which was obviously an advantage. The weather was foul, heavy rain with a very slight rise in the river level. It was a little above normal levels but substantially higher than last year. It was also rather coloured but not a chocolate colour just dirty. Fished the bottom pool with feeders, homemade boilies and pellets and landed several small chub and barbel. A couple of the barbel touching the 7lb mark.

I was surprised to see the river so high at this time of year and quite coloured. Decided to float fish for first half of the day catching several chub. Then in afternoon when canoes slowed down cast feeder out a few times to feed the swim then rested for 30 mins before casting out. Had a steady run of chub and barbel just into dark up to just over 7lbs and chub to just over 4 pounds. Wonderful place to fish in such beatific surroundings still good value at 25 pounds a day, I will be back.

Another great day on this scenic beat. Fished from morning till dark. Had all the chub on the float and one barbel around 4lb. Switched to the feeder later on and had another 7 barbel to 8lb 4oz, all in great condition and fighting well in the slightly heavier flow than usual. Water still very peat coloured from up-river. Snaggy beat at the moment, but didn't loose any feeders after figuring out where the snags were and how to dislodge the feeders when they did get caught up. A great day all round.

Fished from the crack of dawn until 9-30am when the amount of water coming through forced a hasty retreat. Managed six Barbel and lost a load of feeders. This is a great beat but needs to be fished at normal summer levels.

Difficult fishing: Wyebank is better at lower levels. Saw an otter and had a long chat with Don the owner. Would love to see one of the monster salmon that get caught from this beat. Take lots of feeders!!

Another opening day disappointment. Unfortunately the river was not in good condition following the rain storms in Wales over the last couple of days. River was very brown and once fishing we also discovered there was a lot of debris coming down the river making presentation hard. The river was also rising through the day. We reckon it rose around a foot through the course of the day. We tried 4 swims starting at the top end in the wyebank run ending up in the bottom pool. Unfortunately the bottom pool where we really wanted to concentrate our efforts was the hardest to fish. The water was fast down there and coupled with the debris coming down, it was impossible to present a bait correctly even in the inside crease. We also lost several leads/feeders to snags. We ended up going back to top end and spent a couple of hours trotting then the last couple of hours back on the lead/feeder.
Alas the pair of us never had a bite all day let alone a fish. We reckon we fished it as best as we could with varying methods and baits.
On the upside I would like to thank Don, the owner for his help both via email and at the fishery this morning. His advice was highly appreciated and he is a really nice guy to talk to. Although today I don't think any amount of advice would have reaped reward given the river condition. Roll on next week for our next session and the hope of a better condition river.

The river was fining down from it's recent high levels but very cold. Fished close to the car park trotting maggot along a crease. Looked perfect and low and behold I managed to hook and lose three good fish after about an hour. I should have moved then but felt there were fish in front of me. Unfortunately after fishing hard all day I only managed three chub to about 3 lbs. Still worth the journey for such a beautiful river but next time I will be more mobile.
