6pm to 7.30pm - Freelined (1 fixed swan shot) luncheon meat in bottom pool by wading out. 6 chub, 1.5lbs to 3lb and 2 smallish barbel. The chub were stipping meat off small spring leaving meat on inside of spring, whilst retrieving this I brought to hand 3 W B Trout 8 to 12 inch long! I have never had this happen before but suggest a similar design wet fly!
7.30pm to 9.30pm - From bank, swimfeeder and large HB pellet, 2 more chub around 3 to 4lb and 4 barbel in 6 to 8lb size, then just as rain started a sizable eel which locked onto my pliers to long for my liking. Will de-slime kit in morning.

Fishing for brown trout. Too many canoe's disturbing the river. This does not seem a great beat for brown trout. No fish caught.

Nice Easy stretch of River. Unfortunately unfishable due to hundreds of canoes (all day) passing down stream at Wyebank.
If there were any fish they sure got scared off.

In complete contrast to my last visit when I had 24 barbel, both my friend and I didn't get a single bite all day. Very frustrating indeed!

Very shallow water but good bankside. Nice place to fish, huge amount of boats and I could of caught far more without them. All fish caught on feeder fished pellet.

I have never seen the river so low - there was so little water most of the canoes that came through ran aground at some point. Caught chub throughout the day, but barbel in fits and starts. Chub from 4lb to just under 6lb with most barbel in the 7 to 8lb range and one double. All the chub were caught on small ellipse pellets glued to the hair with a small open ended feeder filled with ground bait and micro pellets. Most of the barbel fell to 2 x 12ml pellets on the hair and micro pellets in a closed end feeder. Half were fished from the bank, but I eventually got half way across the river and trotted pellets with a small ledger and small pva mesh bags to find the fish. Used my 2 hardy marksman rods alternately - feeder and Avon with 12lb main line, 20lb micro braid hook links and size 10 hooks. As well as being low the water was warm enough to take a bath in - and more weed coming through than I can remember. A very tough day but still one of my favorite Wye and Usk beats.

Session finished early due to a thunder storm. Delighted to say my 7 year old son landed his first Wye Barbel of 4.8lb. Well done, proud of you son. We will be back some day.

Caught one chub on trotted bread in the morning (only fished 0530 to 1000), Chub 3lbs 13oz.

Acted on advice from bailiff fished in the evening from 1830 to 2115, the bottom glide under tree's. First take produced a good struggle fish felt heavy but before I even saw it hook pulled; as it turned out hook was partially bent should have checked clutch setting as didn't quite get the tension off in time.

Followed a series of good takes, should have done better at least managed a 4 lb 4 oz Barbel and a 4 lb Chub. Bites for Barbel were not the savage takes I experienced at the Bibblings stretch last year. I did however enjoy the experience and I will probably be back for some more next year.

Caught the Barbel and one Chub on feeder with pellet in the morning (only fished 0530 to 1000), Barbel on 2lbs, Chub 3lbs 6oz. Evening 2 Chub largest just under 4lbs caught on trotted bread, good fun. Only wish had earlier advice as I was trying each likely spot. Had advice on last day from baliff, which helped see next return.

As with the previous year Wyebank did exactly what it said on the tin. Water levels and weather condition's dictated the day!
On my/our second visit to Wyebank the numbers of fish caught does not reflect what potential the beat has. Trotting with banded 8mm pellets were the key to catching fish.
We visited the same time last year and our catch was double that of this one. So we leave a little disappointed BUT the size of the individual fish has increased.
Rain needed to allow Wyebank to really shine!
