Arrived 9:00am and walked the beat as unfished before. Weather fine and warming, no wind. Found a section about mid way along with rising fish and tried several dries and emergers but no luck. The nearest was on a grannom where the fish swerved away from the take at the last second. Went over to nymphs but no luck either. A sporadic March brown hatch PM in the strong sun around 3:00pm saved the day. Swapped fly to a MB dry and hooked and landed two fish which had started rising and missed a third which caught me by surprise on a speculative cast. What a lovely place to go trout fishing, thanks to the owners for making this water available. Larger fish pictured. All fish returned safely as usual.

Another day with bright sun and a low and clear river. Had most success on a pair of heavy nymphs run under an indicator through the deeper runs and riffles. Although olives were hatching all day nothing was rising to them. Finished with 3 brown trout landed (best 15 inches) and 2 lost.

All fish caught in tails of pools. Best one 17”. Idyllic day on lovely beat. Two points for other passporters. Even by the standards of the Usk there is very little shade - which is worth remembering for the summer - and the llanover syndicate has the other bank so you may not be fishing virgin water.

Absolutely stunning beat, water level was average and the weather was perfect. Still hard going with minimal rises although sporadic March Brown and Olive hatches. Hooked one large slow-rising fish but frustratingly lost at the net. Third trip to to the Usk and still nothing landed!

Apologies for the late return - I did log one before but it seems there was some bug and it did not enter the system. It fished very well, some small mayfly hatching for a couple of hours in the early afternoon - I think iron blues? Caught nine, all on small, dry mayfly patterns - Iron Blue and Grey Duster and nearly all in this hatch period. Good sizes as usual for the Usk - they ranged between 12 and 17".
