The river was low & clear and I fished the bottom pool just after the faster water feeding maggots & pellet on a regular basis. I took a Barbel of about 7 lb on the 1st cast a Chub of 6 lb on the second cast then lost a ton of tackle (there must be more lead down there than on a church roof!!). I kept the feed going in and ended the day with 10 barbel & 9 chub. The 1st 2 fish were the biggest of the day and a couple of barbel were in the 1 to 2 lb region. Nice to see as they must be breeding.

I had caught a couple of good chub before Don turned up to kindly give me some pointers on fishing the pool at the end of the beat. Water levels were very low but by following Don's advice, I ended with three barbel to 6lb and another two chub nudging 4lb. Many thanks Don, good to meet you.

Another very enjoyable fish at the Wyebank beat. Fished bottom pool all day till around 5pm. Caught 3 barbel and 1 chub all around the 3lb mark on pellets and caught in the afternoon. Decided to get my waders on and fish the top end of the beat, free-lining meat on lighter float gear using a pin. I'm very glad I did as it produced four excellent chub in the 4lb range, putting up a great fight in the shallow fast waters. This is a excellent venue for all types of tactics and would urge fishermen to take advantage of warm temperature and low water conditions while its available.
Thanks again Don.

River very low which meant that only one swim was really fishable so shared it. 5 barbel to 6.6 lbs and 5 chub to one rod and 3 barbel to the other. Chub were caught on meat and barbel on small pellet. This would be a good stretch for 2 with another foot or two on it.

Had a rather frustrating day as my 86yr old Dad wanted to come with me, meaning there was only one swim that we could get to. Still had a nice day though - I will definitely come back to fish the better swims.

This was the first time I've fished the Wye for barbel and overall I'm really impressed with the quality of fishing, the ease of booking and the really friendly bailiff that greeted me. It was really nice coarse fishing for barbel while a salmon angler was wandering up and down casting a fly in all the pools - not something we ever see in deepest, darkest Oxfordshire.
