Weather overcast with showers with a warm South Westerly breeze, river in good condition. Moderate canoe traffic, all respectful of my presence. Fished from mid-day in to the evening. After seven hours of intense concentration, three eels!!!!

The weather had changed for this day and overcast all day. The barbel again fed best towards the end of the day. No need to be there at the crack of dawn. It was good to see different year classes of barbel coming through. Lots of canoes again had a very very rude canoe guide deliberately go through our lines. As an angling guide I've seen him plenty of times before on the river and I will be having a word next time I see him. Normally he is good but don't know what happened this time. I did say that he was being very unprofessional when all the other canoes on the day caused us no problems.
Fish were caught on pellet and feeder tactics. Other than the canoe guide incident we had some great banter with the canoes.

Another great day on the river. Plenty of canoes, however well behaved. The bright sunlight meant they fed late in the day. Largest fish was 8lbs 8oz.

Slow day with only an eel in first few hours. Moved swim early afternoon and had a Barbel of 7 lb which is a PB for me so very pleased.
Good day only spoilt by the dozens of canoes pretty much constantly all day which prevented fishing in a couple of swims.

Travelled down from Yorkshire today so didn't get fishing until gone 6pm. Walked the stretch and settled near the private fishing stretch. Fished pellet and bomb about halfway across catapulting in freebies.
Caught steadily all evening. The first fish turned out to be the biggest of the weekend at 9lb 5oz. A lovely stretch especially once the road had quietened down later on.

This was both, mine and my Dad's first time on the Wye. Also our first crack at fishing a river of this size and pace. The setting is absolutely stunning, one the few places nice enough that I wouldn't mind blanking. This said, the river was fast flowing and coloured and proved a bit tricky for Wye beginners like us to start with. We both set up in swims around mid way down the stretch, neither proved successful in the morning. I moved further upstream around mid afternoon. Fished a swim for around an hour, that produced a 7lb 9oz barbel on my third cast. That came to 12 mm halibut pellet, fished under a heavy feeder. My Dad sat it out in his swim and early evening took a 4 1/2lb chub and eel around 2lb, both to luncheon meat. I moved back to original swim and had a good run from a barbel, before the hook pulled. Unfortunately we couldn't fish as late as we would have liked and that was the last action. We definitely intend to return as soon as possible and make sure we're able to fish later into the evening. This a stunning venue and well chuffed to back my first Wye barbel.

Tough day with an increase in water level and pace washing a lot of weed and debris down river. Conditions forced us to fish the meadow stretch and we managed a few fish to pellet fished on running leads. Biggest barbel was about 8lb, chub were about 2lb. We were due a not so good day as previous recent visits to Courtfield have been great. Back late August for another try!
