Loads of chub to 2lb, some decent dace, bleak, one nice perch and an eel on the float rod. Pellet and boilie tactics produced a barbel and a missed run. River low and clear, weather hot and bright. This river needs a good flush through before the barbel fishing will pick up. My advice if you're booked on here in the next week would be to pack a float rod and just enjoy catching the other species that are present here in vast numbers but rarely fished for.

A very hard days fishing. Started at Lugg Meadow 9am till 4pm in very heavy rain and thunder using all types of baits and methods but just couldn't get any bites. The canoe traffic was very busy and frustrating, most where polite, others were a nightmare when overturning there canoes and swimming through my swim shouting and splashing. A move to bottom end of fishery was decided. Fished the 2 swims at bottom of the steps which was very snaggy and ended up losing quite a bit of tackle. Packed up at 8.30pm to return another day! No fish caught, my first blank on the Wye!

Second day of two days. Fished the Boat Pool again and river appeared to have risen a little following an overnight thundery downpour but was dropping. Caught fish throughout the day but had to wait a long time between bites. My father caught a nice 9lb 13oz barbel, using the feeder and a long hook link, very close to his first double on the Wye, maybe next time. I moved up to the wood crib late afternoon and caught a barbel just under double. A very hot humid day and difficult conditions but enjoyable. The access is excellent, a few snags to contend with but will be fishing this stretch again.

Had a great day guiding 2 clients on Courtfield and Wyebank. Some large barbel were landed at Courtfield to 9lbs 8oz. It was one of the hottest days of the year so fishing was difficult. Even so, Wyebank fished really well, ending up with 7 barbel and 11 chub to 5lbs 12oz. Don't know where these large chub have come from.
However great fun on both beats. Thanks to Don and W&UF.

Arrived on the river at dawn to find it very low and clear. A misty, still and humid morning but looked really good. My father caught a chub and a barbel before I even managed to get my rods in the water, however, things slowed right down and I caught a further chub mid morning. A nice 9lb 8oz barbel was landed late afternoon followed by a good chub. We fished the Boat Pool which probably has the easiest access anywhere on the Wye but lost a lot of tackle on snags. A nice section of Courtfield which produces but be prepared to lose gear.

A difficult day with very few bites. Fished hallibut pellets of all sizes and paste using standard feeder method. I started at first light in wood crib and did not have single bite in 5 hours so moved swims further down. Regular feeding and persistance only produced 3 chub up to 3lb. I packed up at 7.30pm so not sure if fish would have fed later, but suspect they are probably holed up in deeper water due to hot bright conditions and low water. I will be back soon however, maybe after some rain.
