First time on this beat and in very hot conditions, found fish in the deeper channels.
Pellet and feeder worked best.

Had a wonderful session on a scorchingly hot day.
One swim near the parking area at bottom of the field in the middle of the stretch was showing plenty of schooling barbel and chub by a fallen tree. 3 came from there.
But the real winner was further down in the faster stretch, opposite the gravel bank, where we could constantly see large barbel flashing in the deeper water. We had 14 from there between about 2pm and 7.30pm. Ranged from about 3lb to 10lb top weight. Lost a few as well.
The best barbel session of my life and can't wait to get back here asap!

1st fishing trip in nearly 8 years! Only 3 fish but nice to be back on the river. Started at 3pm, 1st cast saw a chub on the hook before I had time to place the rod in the rest! Foch of 3.5/4lb. Barbel came at 4.45 and 7pm. Didn't fish the peg I wanted as another angler in the opposite side was wading half way out in the shallows and fishing Caple Court side..... And pulled out 28 fish! 9 of which were caught whilst I was there!
Lovely session and looking forward to my return visit in a couple of weeks, hopefully I'll get the swim I want.

Beautiful spot. 3 Barbel caught in the middle of the day on pellet using PVA bags too. Moved around a few swims until located some fish. Faster water swims are better.

Fished the afternoon and early evening, alternated between 3 swims but mainly caught from 1, only weighed the largest which happened to be the 2nd fish, 1st was small, weighed 8.6lb, didn't weigh any more, all fish fought really hard but only took a few minutes to recover but kept them a bit longer, the other fish were all in the 5-7lb bracket. Couldn't catch chub at all, trying corn & different pellet, all barbel fell to single 10mm barbel blitz. Very quiet on the canoe front saw 8 all afternoon.

The first decent amount of rain was very welcome but not enough to raise or colour the water, although very windy the sun did appear if only for a brief spell, despite this I was very pleased with my first summer trip on the Wye and did manage to locate the fish eventually in a pacey part of the stretch. Feeding Hemp, Halibut pellet and fishmeal ground bait through a swim feeder with a large banded pellet as hook bait this seemed to do the trick. Caught three nice Barbel early on between 4 - 6 pound and lost a couple more at the net. The canoe traffic was constant throughout the day with some very considerate people and other not so ending up in several broken lines. It was a nice stretch of the river with a number of well cut swims but very steep and in places difficult to get near the water. The location information was spot on , thanks to Wye/Usk Foundation, I'll be booking again soon.
