It proved to be the perfect place to settle the nerves after the England v Columbia penalty shoot out! The river is low but this stretch always has fast deep gullies close in that hold plenty of fish. Hooked up within 5 minutes and caught steadily during the day in the hazy sunshine. Feeder and pellet proving as reliable as ever. Most fish were between 6 and 8 lb. Beatiful stretch of river with easy access and plenty of decent swims, will definitely be back.

Barbel not playing ball. Systemically fed the swims and fished. Found them later in a very snaggy area. However despite this and baits in front smaller rigs etc they weren't having it. one decent chub at dusk to finish. Frustrating

Dissapointing end to my week, this beat just didn't seem to fish today. Very low water and heavy weed growth compared to my last visit. Fished 4 or 5 pegs, from the top to the bottom but only managed 4 small chub and an eel.

A beautiful location the Wye, but unfortunately very hot conditions (29.5 degrees). River was low and clear and plenty of weed to deal with, only managed to catch an eel and the sun!!! Finished at 2.30, it was just too hot and a football match to watch. Many thanks to The Wye & Usk for the opportunity to fish such an idillic spot.

Very very hot, river was so low and full of weed in places that you could walk to the other side without getting your feet wet.
Tried 4 swims, one bite in the mid morning resulting in a small chub. River desperately needs some water.

We only managed half a day today having fished the day before. 3 more Barbel all fell to double hair rigged sweet corn and another very large eel on the meat.
River was again beautiful although we suffered a little all morning with cut weed making its way down the river where someone was clearing weed up stream.
All the fish caught on both days we hard fighting and In pristine condition, a couple of lost fish and one even broke a size 12 hook in half!

Most fish of the fish fell to double hair-rigged sweet corn (even the eel!)
Water was low and it was impossible to get into the water from the banks. If you want to actually get in the water to trot baits in the shallow part of the stretch this is not possible.
It’s also very difficult to safely return Barbel to the water given the steep banks, you have to rest them in the landing net and try to keep them in the flow which as we all know is quite difficult.
That said - this is a beautiful river and we thoroughly enjoyed the fishing and scenery. Weather was hot but we still caught Barbel during the day, we found the fast water on the inside in the upper reaches of the beat.
