A very high river and horizontal rain greeted us through the gloom of dawn.
We walked the stretch to find the few realistically fishable swims in these high water conditions and concentrated on them. The fishing wasn't prolific but a clonking chub was caught along with a smaller one and a small barbel of around 3lb, one around 6lb, a scraper double and a weighed 10lb 12oz beauty. One was also lost to a hook pull in the fast water as it made for a snag.
We parked at the bottom of the stretch near the cattle grid as the middle parking area in the field seemed unavailable to use (both fields are full of a lovely looking breed of cows I've not seen before and a very large bull, all with huge horns). However the cows are kept away from the river/anglers/walkers by an electric fence and yes, it is working! That woke me up.
Another cracking day on a wonderful beat.

River level was rising rapidly with lots of debris coming down reducing the number of fishable swims. All fish caught on meat.
