Started midday in glorious weather again.
CL baited a swim to return to later and then had a wander and fished a swim on the feeder for the afternoon. One 8lb plus barbel for him there.
I trotted a swim and had 2 chub and one barbel in the afternoon and then decided to rove around
and do some meat rolling which got me a couple of good barbel from a swim that I made, nobody had been in it this season. Both fish over 8lbs.
CL spent the evening in his prebaited swim and had four nice barbel with three of them over 8lb .
I returned to my original swim and had three more barbel, two of those again over 8lbs.
A very good stamp of fish indeed.
Very enjoyable.

Yet another tough day with the fish seemingly not interested in feeding. Not so much as a bite all day.

Fished from 11 ish to dark on possible the most beautiful stretch of undoubtedly THE most beautiful river in the UK. Good job I was in good surroundings really as the (my) fishing was awful. Battled hard for 3 chunky chub and a bag full of chublets and dace on the float.
Settled in to a nice peg for last knockings and through very poor angling managed to hook three and lose three. One of the three bites was definitely barbelish, the rod bending round and the line screaming off the spool as once again I managed to miss the action whilst distracted, probably sorting maggots into size order or dislodging a particularly troublesome nettle from a personal area. Like a numpty, I’d put a new spool of line on and forgotten to reset the clutch, meaning the fish (it was huge, honest) toyed with me like a happy dog on a lead before spitting out my three year old boilie in contempt at my shoddy angling.
I think I scared the cows with my expletives as some of them let out some poo as I yelled Fxxx! into the country air. After waiting all day behind a static rod for a decent bite, you can imagine the disappointment of missing a monster (probably a double, almost certainly a PB and quite possibly a new British record).
I can still hear the scream of my reel, ending abruptly as the barbel chuckled its way back to the river bed to tell its mates about my comedy fishing.
That scream is gonna haunt me forever.
Tight lines all. And don't forget to check your clutch.
