Beat:Chanstone Court
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Fished above the bridge and caught 6 trout up to 10 inches on a nymph fished under a dry fly. Downstream wind made casting difficult at times and also missed a few takes to the nymph, nothing rose for the dry fly. Saw Kingfishers and a eel.

First time out this season. Not much activity but managed one trout by bridge. It was the only rise I saw.

Beat:Chanstone Court
Fishing:Winter Grayling

Weather dull, grey, and misty. The stream was in good condition and the clarity of water was superb but unfortunately I did not spot any fish at all. There is a large tree that has fallen across the stream about 150 yards downstream from the bridge which I found impossible to negotiate.

Tried Chanstone again, fished much better than previous day, crawled to try and not spook fish....this time didn't see a fish or connect!! Water felt colder, but really felt that I would catch. Tried various Nymphs with long leader also dry fly as previous trip. Spooked predator birds of all species....!!

Staying at Michaelchurch Escley, tried Chanstone, water gin clear but beautiful stream. Hooked, but lost two out of season Brownies. Difficult in areas due to lack of crossing points in barbed wire. Very challenging and enjoyable.

Change of plans after heavy overnight rain made the Ithon look unfishable. I found the Dore still very low and clear.
Still mild and a few olives hatching. Caught 2 Grayling of around 10 inches in the slower water on a Gold bead red tag.

Lovely countryside, I fish these types of waters a lot. But this beat is terribly overgrown and it is on its bones. I saw plenty of fish about but casting, or roll casting was near impossible...

First time on the Dore and what an amazing river, it's got just about everything you could wish for. Very good conditions today, generally overcast with little wind, but very little fly life and just the very occasional rise. I went for a small DHE tied with a pheasant tail body and got 7 lovely fish to the net ranging in size from 6" - 12". I only fished the first half of the beat as I came a cropper at a pool that was too deep to wade through, maybe 150 yards before the bridge. I'm sure that people who are familiar with the beat will know the spot. Having hacked my way through the undergrowth to get above the pool, I was just getting back into the water and my boot caught on a tree root and I went in head first - hey-ho, you've got to laugh - fantastic day though !
