Having spent the morning on the Wye I had headed up to the Edw for the afternoon. A beautiful beat, which would have a real variety with a bit more water. A real healthy stock of fish... loads in the 6-9” range but even with the low water I spotted a good number in the 10-12” range.
The smaller fish were very obliging and I caught 19, all on the dry (or 20... a bit of confusion at the end of the day!) but their larger friends didn’t play ball, they were either stubbornly doggo on the stream bed, showing no interest at all or they spotted me just before I spotted them.
A great couple of hours though, as the water was so low I scooted up sections but early season with more water the beat would have a huge amount of fishing with so much structure to investigate... i’ll definitely head back. Thanks WUF.... another great day.

River low and lots of slime, wading tricky over the flat bedrock areas. Some flies hatching and occasional trout rising. Prospected with a tiny dry olive and landed 13 at 6" to 11" , missing many more. Lots of parr. Briefly connected with one large trout from a deep run, all in all a lovely day.

Plenty of water in the river, but all the same the lowest I've seen it. Fished both the bottom and top sections on the map and caught 17 wbt on a variety of dry. Most fish between 6 and 10 inches, with one or two smaller, and one or two larger.
I spooked a very, very large fish as I entered the pool just below the house which keeps their bank private. It was so big it spooked me too! Next time I'm gonna need a bigger boat.

Wonderful day's fishing on the Edw. Very dry but some great little pools and runs to French nymph down. Only small trout caught but saw some reasonable sized ones - though they didn't want to eat any flies I offered them. Will certainly be back

This was my first day on this beat. The weather was cloudy and a trifle drizzly but it became sunnier as the day went on. Judging by the colour of the exposed rocks the water was fairly low and rather less than brilliantly clear. Very little sign of fly or fish.
I started fishing at about 11.00 and half an hour with a BlackGnat was unproductive. For a further hour my Adams Parachute was equally unsuccessful but when I reached the section by the house (with no access to the bank) things warmed up and I took 6 5" or 6" brownies. On the last stretch in sight of the bridge a few mayflies appeared so I put on a Spent Mayfly and immediately landed another 6". Finally I saw some promising rises under the bridge and brought an 11' to the net. This was so deeply hooked that I was unable to release him.

Hot but not too bright, water very low. Strong Mayfly hatch and some fantastic sport, fish coming to Adams and Grey Whulfs. 6 and 8 inch’s with one lovely fat 1/2 pounder.

Fished 530-730 the last of a three beat day. I tried to move pretty quickly covering the lower section of the beat up to the bridge with a long leader and single Mayfly nymph.
A beautiful warm slightly overcast day. With the river running low but carrying some colour. I have fished this section of river more than any other W&UF venue but have never seen it with fly life like today. Quite amazing, even the odd Mayfly.
I tried to count the fish under 5inches separately from those over but lost count after 15. In all about 25 fish with 6 over the 5/6 inch mark and one nice 13 incher on the last cast of the day.

Hard going on the lower section with only two 4" trout, same river just lower down and same fly as yesterday with considerably less interest. The upper section proved to be more alive as fish were rising more frequently, and were a better size, up to 8". Parachute Adams size 14 and 16 were preferred choice. This is a really wild section where the river is in a small gorge, real cowboy country!

Numerous fry and 5 WBT to 6in. Lower section (bottom half of the lower beat) is very overhung by new growth in the trees. The upper half of the lower beat is far more fishable.

River very low and slow. 6 wbt caught and returned, best around 8". Fished a variety of dry flies - Adams, Tups, CDC. All seemed to catch on a slow day.
