No sign of fish activity at all and no real fly life evident, still a bit too early to fish this beat yet, water temperature must be too low.

All fish were returned.

Fairly low flows, just a few olives coming off now and then. Managed to tempt 4 trout between 4-5" and a little salmon parr.

Arrived after a surprisingly long drive after work from Brecon about 6.15 pm. This valley has a very remote feel to it, you could be hundreds of miles from civilization. It had turned very cold, blustery with an icy cold wind - it felt more like a chill October night than early September! The lower stretch has some nice pools, missed a few fish (looked small) that boiled at a dry. Tried nymphs and a duo, but nothing. No fly life or any fish activity at all. Most of upper reach is shallow interconnecting water, so not so great. Saved a blank by catching an 8 inch trout back at the first big pool at 8.00pm. Very tough going... I think evening fishing is well and truly over for 2015.

Good flow in the river, only slightly coloured and not too high. However, attracted nothing on klinks or nymphs until about 4pm. The sun had shone for a while by then, and a few flies emerged. A gray duster para. did the trick, I landed 4, 3 at 9 to 11" and 1 cracker at 15",and another the same size launched itself like a missile and shook the hook on landing. Had to give it 10/10 for style and technique.... Also missed several, great finish to the day.

Assume water levels are too low - did not see a fish or any sign of activity. Might be my inexperience!

Afternoon session on the lovely Grywne Fawr. Tough going in the very low water and the small sentrys in the tails of the pool alerted the bigger chaps that are sometimes here. Best fish was a 12 incher of fighting fury, they really do go some down here! Lots of salmon parr topping and snatching the dry and the river bed is littered with case building caddis.

A lovely stretch of river in a beautiful setting. Some surface activity so fished with a small dry. Caught a handsome fish (10 inch) on the surface at one of the deeper pools. The rest caught on a spider New Zealand style.

First time fishing this beat, dry with sunny periods. First half has quite a few nice pools where fish were visibly rising but not taking, eventually caught 3 small wbt in 2 minutes changing to a griffiths gnat which they hit like a train. The latter half has a very long section of fast riffle with little variety, I should have changed to nymphing but thought there would be another pool of rising fish just around the next corner - but no.
Saw a mink on the right (south) bank early on, got a shock towards the end in a deeper riffle when what looked like an octopus broke surface & rolled past me in the fast water turning over end on end - realised after it seemed to be a 2-3lb fish wrestling with a large lamprey - went past in a flash.
