Two of us fishing. A first visit to this impressive venue. Fairly low level of water, fining down but still carrying a f colour. Conditions seemed very favourable. Quickly became apparent that water was moving through deceptively quickly, and at least 3oz were required to hold, even in less pacey stretches. Pellet, meat, bread all used with feeder, but to no avail. A good three hours spent mixing things up, the first fish, a Chub of about 3.5lb was banked shortly after mid-day. An hour or so later, another Chub was taken, a bigger fish around 4lb. Both fell to cheese paste.
Hard going. A fairly strong breeze may not have helped with bite detection, but this bright, mild day seemed to promise so much more. An angler on the opposite bank, using the water in front of the cabin, also appeared to be struggling. Just one of those days I suppose.

River looked good. Knocking through in places, so 4oz needed to hold bottom. Chub fell to pellet and cheese paste.

It was 10.5C, which was warmer than a few weeks ago, however the wind which grew in strength as the day worn on was biting. Explored downstream a bit further and was rewarded by one tiny Grayling, however a fish is a fish!

Fished afternoon only, about half way down the beat.
The river was flowing quite strong and flow seemed to increase as the day went on.
Started with a 4oz feeder but ended up having to use a 7oz feeder to hold in the flow after crossing foy bridge from hole in the wall side.
That combined with a change to a shorter hooklink and a bigger hook resulted in a small chub of around 1 1/2lb. Did have a few other knocks and enquiries but nothing came of them.
I was using a 2. 25 test curve rod, 12lb mainline to a 10lb floro hooklink which was about 2ft long. Caught the fish on a spicy sausage dumbell after trying krill boilies for the first 2 hours without a sniff.
Still unsure if you can actually fish both sides of the beat. It clearly says you can on the map and could see a few places opposite that looked fishable from the bank that could be accessed by walking down the fields on lh side of bank (looking downstream from the bridge), but remember reading you would have to wade to across to access that bank.
Perhaps someone could clarify this for me. Thanks.
Lovely place to fish. Would highly recommend others have a go.
Fishing Passport Note : Some double bank fisheries will only have agreed access on one side of the river.

Trotting today. Gauge was at 0.65m on this very blustery day. Walked a lot and tried an a large number of pools for the larger grayling but to no avail. 3 grayling landed were very small which I guess might bode well for the future. One of the 3 x OOS trout was magnificent at 17 inches, fought well and carefully returned without leaving the water, would have been very pleased with that in season on the fly. As ever a delightful tranquil setting, did not see a sole all day.

9 degrees and still when I arrived, river at 1.5 on Mordiford gauge, with an 8.6 water temperature and a good tinge of colour. Started up near the middle fence on hemp and maggot feeder. An early small chub, avoiding the blank, was followed by a biteless hour. I then pulled out of a chub and barbel in consecutive casts. A swap to meat produced a nice chub and again a blank period so I moved downstream. A 3lb barbel was all from that swim and as JC from Reading who I'd met there had had a few fish I moved down again early afternoon. First swim was quite shallow so I moved again and second chuck on a GB feeder and a big bit of meat resulted in a lovely barbel of 9.02. JC had no more fish but a good result for both of us on a lovely mild winter's day.
