Great days fishing. The banks were treacherous in the morning being very wet. There are steps cut out in every swim which make it easier to get up and down. The river was pretty high so only 1 swim which was easily fish able. The river was falling during the but still pushing through nicely. Chub were all 1lb to just shy of 4lb, mainly caught using big chunks on luncheon meat. Both barbel were around 6lb and both caught on luncheon meat. 4oz feeder was just holding bottom in the slacker water. Other baits that worked were glugged halibut hookables.

Great little venue with loads of wildlife !

Nice weather, if a little cool - it's not many days since the water was too warm to fish. Two trout (about ½lb and ¾lb) caught on downstream nymph, and returned. A bigger one hooked for a few seconds. A typical grand finale for the last day's fishing of the season (for me). Or maybe just an ordinary finale. My back aches, my foot is wet and it's a 1½hour drive home - but I know in a few days time I'll want to do it all again. Is it the river, the fish, or the second breakfast at Three Cocks on the way over? Probably all three. Roll on next season!

Area:Irfon & Ithon

Beat:Llanddewi

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

River dropping after heavy rain earlier in the week, around 0.3 - 0.32 m on Llanddewi gauge. Bit of colour in the water, would guess around 18"-24" visibility. Fished from about 10 am to 5 pm, and covered the bottom half of the beat. Quite a mixed bag weather-wise, from bright sunshine to heavy showers.

2 anglers, fished with nymphs including euro rig and NZ style indicator. 7 brown trout between us and 3 hooked but not landed, all around 9" - 12". Fish hooked on typical patterns; perdigons, soft hackled beaded nymphs, beaded hares ears... mostly 3mm tungsten beads.

The first time we have fished this beat and thoroughly enjoyed it. Word of warning that we lost a fair few flies with snags in the water that we couldn't see in these conditions.
