I’d been looking forward to fishing this beat again for few years now but unfortunately left disappointed. The weather was bright warm and sunny but I haven’t found this to be a problem in the past. The river however was very low with little flow in places. It also had an unhealthy looking tinge of colour and any river bed not exposed to a significant flow was covered in a brown, slippery algae/sludge. At this time of year the river should be alive with insects and the air filled swifts, swallows and Martins but the insects, particularly the aquatic varieties were conspicuous by their absence, as were the birds. Very few fish were rising, I managed to catch one small trout on a dry fly and missed 6 other takes, I blame this on the fact I could find no rising fish to cast to so was prospecting, casting where I thought fish might be and getting fast, unexpected takes which I missed!
When I’d walked to the pool I’d intended to fish I found a group of young men sitting on the grass on the far bank, they then proceeded to take off their shoes and socks and get into the best pool on the beat.
In all a frustrating and saddening day on the river.

Fished later than normal, had a fairly hectic day so ended up at the pull in opposite the phone box at about fourish.... still really muggy and warm. Reading 18 degrees on my truck dash ...... such a calm feeling walking down to the now low river Edw ..... I'd say two more good weeks fishing on this with no rain then things will get really tricky !!! It was hard going this evening to be fair !!!
Fished a small grey wulff and tiny f fly when they weren't smashing up to spent spinners !!@ seemed to work ... sized down my f fly to a twenty , lots of missed fish today and a good few on but then off the barbless hook .... oh well still good fun .... managed seven to the net , some feisty tubby fish too .... sizes from seven to eleven inches or so .....
Fished from below the Bridge up to just shy of the plush house on the right as you wade up .... before it, there is a nice gate opening then you have that cracking walk through the woodland .... blighted for me by dam horse flys..... they are persistent aren't they !!! Tactic is let them land and swat them quickly before they get into your skin!!!
A fun three hours here as always , think the fish have had a beating here the last few weeks .... it amazes me what's wrong with the Arrow and Lugg beats this year .... if I was back leominster way I'd be on Court of Noke and kington, Hergest beats etc etc .... come on folks where is your sense of adventure!!!.... there good beats .... anyway I digress , a fun chill out on an old favourite, I'm waiting for the Cochybonddu to show up at Claerwen, rumour has it there's been a few on Llyn Clywedog ..... we shall see!!! Happy times .....

Fished Sat and Sunday. Both very hot days, clear blue skies. Very few trout seen, and those which we did had very little interest in our flies. Lovely fishery.

Lovely beat above the bridge, although didn't venture below the bridge. Fished an evening ticket arrived at 6 pm although hatch didn't start until after 8 pm and constant rises all around. Only managed 2 at 12 and 14 inches. I left a fly box towards top of the beat on the rocks unfortunately, if anyone finds it i would be grateful if they could contact W&U and I can arrange collection. Thanks

Hooked and played two good trout and lost both! Struck late on another two and failed to hook either! A tough full day (0930 to 1830) of fishing but fun. Saw some very good size trout in the gutters and some in the still areas of the river. Enough fly life and rises to keep me hoping...
