Two trout on nymphs, one a beauty of 18" which gave a good battle. He kept trying to run under a rock gutter so it was a bit hairy, was worried the line would fray! Caught another of 11”, had two others come off the hook which were decent too, about 14 and 16”? All the bites were around midday and early afternoon when there were some hatches (LDOs, march browns, and the olive uprights have just started)– quieter in the late afternoon and early evening and then it was rock-hard, not a bite! Weighed this fish and he was 2lb 12 oz once the net was deducted – a good weight for 18" compared to other rivers, and these Usk trout often seem in really good condition? I guess when they are so well fed they can afford to be picky, and stop feeding entirely when nothing much is happening!

I travel in a camper car, parking was a nightmare, access to the river V difficult, lot of barb wire, very little fly life, saw no fish, weather cloudy but not cold, started with nymphs, then dry's when the sun came out for a little while,
But to no avail.

Water at max level, very little banking to fish A470 side .
Arrived around 9am left t 4pm not a single bite.
And apparently the same story with all anglers I spoke too.
Tried fishing the bottom and spinning I seen no activity on the water all day .Really beginning to consider alternative beats now This particular venue hasn’t fished that well the last couple of seasons its either not being stocked as we are being told, or possibly being poached at night
Or the cormorants are having a daily banquet and eating
better than I am . A shame really as it’s a beautiful reservoir
