I got to the river about 11am to find a large hatch of olives, and the fish rising to them, appearing not to mind that an otter was hunting amongst them. I started just downstream of the otter, who I think was hunting outside my beat, and caught a nice fish immediately on a weighted olive nymph. After that it got a bit harder, had takes on the nymphs through the day, and caught two more fish.

A full day on Fenni Fach, using nymphs. Water still quite heavy, but clear. Caught 4 fish, in shallower places to my surprise. Maybe I should have sunk the nymphs lower in the deeper water....

Overcast, with no wind. River still quite high and running fast but clear. Focused on the bottom of the Sewage Pool and the deeper parts of the run below it. No flies coming off so began with a tungsten PTN. Around 12:30 the sand martins went mad as a hatch of olives and march browns began. Trout quickly got turned on and I had a mad 45 minutes where every cast was to a rising fish. Four nice WBT to the net and lost several others. Hatch stopped as quickly as it started - but great fun while it lasted. Classic spring Usk fishing!

River was high and fast, attempted to cast in a couple of places, but just too dangerous so retired to the pub - nothing caught.

River clear but high and flowing quickly. When LDO's started hatching a few fish could be seen chasing and taking hatching nymphs near or at the surface but very few "rises" and all action was in the fastest water. The "ideal" dry fly water was covered in hatching nymphs but I did not see any taken. Back to the drawing board!!
