Excellent day feeder fishing. Caught on meat and boilies. River up a bit and a big storm later in the day. Some swims were steep and slippery so risky when it was raining heavily.

Dufnant is a beautiful, secluded feeling place even on a day that started gray and finished in proper stair-rod downpours. I found it quite hard going, not straightforward to fish - especially on a decidedly not dry fly day - and a tough wade to boot. For the first hour I neither caught nor saw or trout even in some promising riffly water. Then I caught one - a beautiful purple brownie of a pound plus, then another, and so it went. And I caught more or less steadily thereafter. But the day (the week? the year?) was made by one terrifying, glorious beast of 3lb 2oz.

Cold downstream didn't help much today but managed to winkle a few out on gold bead nymph and spider. A few long distance releases too.

River at 1’1” and clearing slowly. Some luck after a fashion today with a take from a known lie in the bottom of the beat early afternoon. Strangely, very little fight but what I thought was probably a chub turned out to be a small, very coloured cock salmon that had probably been in the system for some time.
A bit skinny but with no sign of any fungal infection.
Played hard, not netted, and swiftly released “Oykel Style”. Guesstimate 6-7lb.
Fished most of the beat with nothing else seen before finishing in heavy rain at 5.00pm.
From the Chapel Catch.
Silver Stoat dressed on 1/2” copper.

First time on this beat of the Lugg, trip was curtailed due to late arrival because of road closures in the local area and having to get back for baby grandson duties. So, just a quick recce of this interesting stretch of water, still carrying the milky grey colour. No fish but will definitely return early next season. Absolutely beautiful setting.
