River low and tea coloured. Temp hovering around 19C so only fished the faster, better oxygenated water with a trout Spey rod and de-barbed hooks. A couple of grayling to 14” and trout to 11”, otherwise small. Taken on a wide variety of flies but, only seeing one decent rising fish, I didn’t fish any dries. Six of the trout came from double takes to point and mid dropper.
All fish quickly to hand, nothing netted, and quickly released but a good number of others wriggled off.

Low water level. Water temp. measured as 21 degrees. Barbel caught while legering, allowed to recover more than usual as a precaution.

Another scorcher today ! Tricky fishing , was hoping to bag up but very slow , a few chub and a barbel to keep me on the edge ,
Evening produced the best sport as you’d expect , famous for its smaller barbel I did manage to whip out a few over 3lb so happy with that . Always a pleasure to be here another great day !

Arrived on the beat at 14:00. Hot, with clear blue skies but a stiffish wind. A little rain over the weekend freshened up the river - but not enough to shift the gauge at Brecon. No fly activity so fished a lightly beaded olive nymph at the top of the beat. Missed a couple of takes but had one beautifully marked WBT of around 1lb.

Caught a fleeting glimpse of a black stoat-like creature on the opposite bank. I am almost certain it was a mink. Are they found on the Usk??

It should be made clear that there is a sewage treatment works at the top of this beat. If the wind is in the wrong direction, as it was in our case, the smell is overpowering. We could only last a few hours before it became too much and we left.
