Started fishing 5:30, water in reservoir very low and mud a bit tricky to negotiate. A number of fish rising so started with dry (black) fly and caught one brown trout (10”) which we returned. As morning warmed up I swapped to various combinations wet fly, indicator/dropper etc then moved to lures as daughter was being successful spinning with size 3 mepps. She got 3 brownies between 8” - 10”, again returned. Day got really hot and sunny so just about to pack up at 10:30 when I had a cheeky punt with a dry (black) fly at a rise nearby and landed a lovely brownie. 14”, 425g. Took that home.

Very tough day due to it being so hot and sunny - they just weren’t biting.
Had 5 small chub between us all day despite trying lots of different methods and baits. Still, we saw kingfishers, goosanders, swans and other wildlife and had a pleasant day on the river

6 fish landed and at least as many rose with splashy rises. Biggest fish 13 inches. Para Caddis, EHC, Royal Wulff and PTN did the job. River very low and fish are very timid. I spooked quite a few. Fished until 2030 with the biggest of the day coming deep into injury time. Lovely day in paradise.
Thank you Fishing Passport.

First time on this beat, rotated between croys and upper reaches bend. Most of the chub taken on the bend, couldn't even put the rod down sometimes as it went as soon as it hit the water. Lots of chub on the surface. No barbel but if the chub are competing so hard then they won't get a look in.
Very enjoyable day and incredibly well maintained beat with footpaths and entries to swims all neatly strimmed.
