Perfect conditions (water, weather, hatching fly) but almost no fish showing, even in the most tantalising of spots. A complete blank!

Day 3 of 4 day trip. After a difficult time on Whittern I moved up the Arrow a mile or so to Titley for the second half of the day. Wind settled and fish started rising (a little) about 6pm but I'm afraid I ran out of steam after what had been a difficult day.

It would seem that reading the other returns the Arrow is yet to get going - not a single fish surfaced all day, probably not helped by the overnight rain that meant the water seemed to colour up as the day went on. Out of hope rather than expectation I 'Klinked an' Dinked' my way round the beat and ended up with half a dozen small trout. Some of the pools would have suited using heavy bugs as they are waist deep with good flow.

Only eight degrees - so cold. No fish seen.

Cold easterly wind, but at least upstream. Two small trout lost to a subsurface GRHE pattern around midday (moral, always check after snagging that your hook hasn't straightened!). Subsequently different patterns, different depths, but nothing, and no rising fish.

Fished 10-2. Rather underestimated the wind - had hoped the trees would shelter the river but found it funnelling up the valley which left me only casting in the lulls. Very pleased therefore to pick up 2 x 9inch trout on a pheasant tail nymph.
This may spark debate but I do think the red spotted Arrow trout are the belles of the W&U river trout.

Plenty of midge, large dark olives and even what looked like a few iron blues coming off all day from about 3 until 7 and yet I didn't see a single fish rise all day. Maybe it is just a little early still. Caught one brownie maybe 6 inches on a small PTN on the bottom section of the beat.

Wet fly and nymphing - not a touch! Noticed the bank erosion had left fencing hanging in mid-air around a third of the way up from the bridge.
