A very slow day. 1 small grayling taken on a PTN. A shame that a lot of the beat is slightly difficult to fish unless wading. OK in the summer, less so in the later part of the year. Still, a day on the river is never wasted.

Fished the swim directly in front of you as you walk down the hill downstream of the woods. Nicely sheltered from a blustery wind. River had lost its colour, but it was mild for October, overcast and I was feeling optimistic.
The walk over the hill really isn’t a big deal - takes about 15 mins from the car park - just take it steady.
Barbel 4th cast at about 10:00 a.m. to feeder / meat. Then got snapped off shortly after by another fish. Went dead, so had a walk into the woods but I didn’t personally like the look of some of the fishable spots - just too tight and snaggy for my liking - definitely looked like holding points for fish.
Ended the day with a 5 lb pike which picked up a double fish meal boilee. Hung on until dusk, but sadly no barbel showed up.
1 barbel and 1 pike

The river was at 0.61 on the Ross level when I arrived. Overcast and very mild. I thought I would be in for a good day, which it was for me. It was made difficult by a very strong wind which blew strongly and followed the river which made reading the water difficult and bite detection difficult too. I chose to fish closer in with the rod tip down which did help. Two barbel to about 7lb and a lovely one to probably 10 lb all taken on paste wrapped cheesy garlic pellets. Two small chub were also caught.

Hard going with overnight wind and rain, but was rewarded with two grayling’s in this stunning location. Both caught on olive nymphs. The added treat was seeing a salmon jumping approx 10-15 ft away, brilliant!
