All trout were caught on small nymphs (gold head). Only a few up winged flies came of the water. No real hatch.

Having seen nothing at Hergest, tried this beat for afternoon. Some good fish moving in the big pool 100 yards from the bottom, and they went for a Grey Duster and Iron Blue Dunn, but did not take.

Just one 8 inch brownie that took a Greenwell's Glory. Only rose one other but struck too late (or maybe too soon!). Saw a few fish so felt I should have had one or two more on this beautiful beat. Found the bedrock and gravel dangerously slippery, maybe should have taken felt soled boots rather than the so-called 'sticky rubber' ones.

Arrived about 7am, parked up and had a quick look at the river from the bridge. It was crystal clear did not see any fish from bridge on first inspection so went back to car to put normal slick bottom chest waders on, not felt studded so off I went back to the river all geared up. First step on rock and slipped over and almost broke my back. It was too slippery and dangerous for me to carry on so called it a day but still a nice location and will be back another day with better chest waders. This was my first time on this river with not much research done.

Still very cold although there was much more sun than the last few days. There must have been some fly life coming off because I was treated to the extraordinary sight of a bat feeding in the middle of the day. It was scooping insects from the surface of the river just below the bridge. But that hatch was of no interest to the fish. Although I was warmer than the last few days, I still saw no fish and caught none.
