After having day 2 of a 3 day trip rained off I decided to return to the small stream I'd been so impressed with on day 1 (Edw at Aberedw), which looked likely to be the only river in the area unaffected by the rain. It turned out to be a little coloured, but fishing well. I think the extra rain actually helped and there were plenty of fish spread throughout most of the pools, mainly hiding under overhanging branches or alongside the plentiful woody cover. Fished 9.00-18.00 and had about 12 to hand, mainly on large dries - DHE, caddis etc. As with day 1, could've been many more. Lots of insect life about - the river really is very healthy and just packed with young trout feeding aggressively. Had a brilliant day on what is probably the nicest piece of water I've ever seen.

Fished from 2 till 6 after the morning rain. It was too windy to fish dries effectively for the few rising fish so stuck with French leader and 2 weighted nymphs. 18 Trout to hand between 2 and 10 inches countless misses in the fast runs. I was surprised to see a few Mayfly hatching on such a rocky river. The Edw is obviously in great health going by the stocks of fish and so many juveniles, good to see the WUF work paying off.

Fished 9 to 5...Plenty of fish to be seen but all were utterly focused on the clouds of tiny flies that were hatching all day. All my efforts were to no avail until well into the afternoon when seeing a solitary large sedge I gave up on the tiny imitations and chucked a no 12 silver sedge into the pool.....bang! first fish of the day....followed by 2 more to larger olives, all fish around 6-8"
Hard work on a shallow but beautiful stretch of the Edw.
Thanks again to all at WUF.

Clear water with a short mayfly hatch. Small numbers of lacewing seen. Plenty of fry throughout with the deeper pools holding fish up to 8". A couple of fallen trees in the stream. All fish returned. Great afternoon!

The river was in good condition and not too over grown.
The trout were holding in the faster water and were happy to rise to small dark flies. There were plenty of splashy takes, and we managed to stay attached to a few.
A good day out. Many Thanks.

Day 4 of 4 day trip and what a difference a few degrees on the thermometer will make! The river was rammed with fish and I would estimate I missed as many as I caught. Fish were not huge being mostly in the 6" to 8" range although there were two caught that were notably larger. What a fun day a great way to finish a fantastic 4 day trip fishing @WUFoundation beats. A mention too for St Marys B&B in Hay for a nice, comfortable room with breakfast.

Fished from 11:30 to 2:30 in a rather cold easterly wind. 4 Trout caught on size 16 PTN in the faster runs. Water seemed quite low but still managed to slip and take an early bath which spoiled my afternoon on a very nice beat.
A few Olives hatched around 1pm when the sun broke through and saw a couple of rises but not enough to change tactics. Dippers busy under the bridge and a Goshawk sitting on young halfway up the beat.

Temperature 10c lower than previous day, chilly wind, river pushing through nicely. A trickle of olives of various sizes along with the odd March brown but not sufficient to tempt the residents up. Klinked and dinked for the most part resulting in two skinny, wintered trout, 8" and 12".
Easy access, easy wading and nestled in beautiful surroundings. There are several trees down, and whilst this provides good trout habitat, it's very difficult to get a decent drift for your fly in and around these trout holding areas.
Lovely to be back on the water.

A great day on a great beat. Nothing rising to a cdc olive so switched to the duo and caught some on the nymph.
The best places seem to be where it opens out about half way and the falls.

First outing of the season and 10 trout 4-8 inches to show for my efforts. Fished the duo and caught fish on both the dry fly and the nymph. No real hatch to speak of and the only rises were those to my fly. River has changed somewhat since my visit last season; a few more fallen trees to contend with. Still, a good start to the season.
