This being my third visit to beat in 3 years and receiving a ‘beating’ from it last time out with only a handful of Chublets , today How Caple was back to its best!
Having chose to start in a favourite swim of mine at bottom of track I cast in at first light and within 30 seconds tip wrapped around and 4lb 4oz Chub hit the net ! Another small chub of about a pound over the next hour and it was time to move on (feeder/meat).
Moving and searching around the faster more bubbly flow I banked first 2 Barbel the biggest being about 6 (on pellet) .
Having pre baiting a few more swims I moved on and settled in one which I was advised to by Surrey father, son and family combo who kindly chatted and advised me on visit the night before .
After a very naughty two and a half hour cat nap due to ridiculous levels of excitement the night before and waking every hour to look at clock in fear it won’t go off at 4am , I finally awoke at 0312 but by lunchtime was shattered !
After a dozen canoes and sun dropped a bit I got bites regular and banked the rest of my fish , the biggest Barbel being 8lb 8oz, all on meat.
If you lightened up your approach ( not advised ) and used smaller baits I would hate to think how many chub you could catch , the beat really is thick with them and great fun they are too !
Stunning beat , one of the best , water levels not bad for time of year , thank you Wye and Usk for ANOTHER memorable day and fully expect to be back here again in 2022!

River freshened just a little by recent rain. One small trout on nymph (beaded GRHE) & one on dry (sedge) where only rising fish spotted. Pleasant location ignoring occasional campers' & agricultural waste.

hard day for middle hill court standards. overcast but warm day, plenty water on river not to pacey but the water was a dark green colour due to an algae bloom. will try again later in year i think.

Grateful for the weekend rain restoring this stream to a very fishable height. Very little fly life and consequently very few fish rising. Persisted with a dry fly (Iron Blue and Adams Para, everything barbless), casting at likely fish holding spots. Managed 8 wbt, all over 8" and one handsome fish of around 15". All fish returned safely.

Well having had a really good session up at Claerwen Reservoir with a buddy on the Friday ,.with Brownies smashing wets in the wave , I thought I'd carry on the motion on one of the local wild streams as I was off today also,.so plumbed for the Titley beat of the Arrow . . . .
A bit cooler thus morning when I parked up under the yew tree at eight bells. Overcast and s slightly of drizzle that did fade to nothing by half eight ! Very quiet till i got to that first picturesque glide ! Cast my small Parachute Iron Blue ,.a very gentle rise to it !! And boy did he go !!! A donkey of a fish , had me a real run around ; absolute beauty must have been fifteen inches ; maybe a bit more !! Lovely job.. . . . .
Second and third were on a flashback PTN ,.First time I've fished sub surface for ages ! But another tei good fish , both in deep pools and twelve and thirteen inches respectively . Last fish was in the weir pool on the Para Iron Blue ,.Nice splashy take too !!!
I did read that the Honddu fish grow big possibly from feeding on crayfish, well , I'm.sure the same happens here ! Brownies grow big on this beat compared to Whittern and Noke . . . .
A lovely session thus morning, only fairly quick j gig out at the weir at half eleven. Still low and that nasty brown dead algae on stones. Yukky stuff and stinking too !! I was very conscious at the lack of Brownies seen today !! Walking back along the field i normally see Brownies pin balling in the river below!! Today not one seen in that hundred and fifty yard stretch where you can walk close to the river ! Most odd . . . .
Still a lovely morning in the Titley valley!! A superb place to sneek in a few hours and net some lovely Arrow browns. . . . Happy days !! Back home and a date with a hedge trimmer I think !!!!lol . . . . . .

Water was still very low and clear. I would say this isn’t a good bet unless there has been significant rain. The best is relatively short a mornings fishing. I arrived very early and hooked and returned the fish by 7am no bites after that. The river bed is very snagging for nymphs. And growth overhead meant every other cast snagged above too.
