A difficult day with very cold water and bright sun, there were a couple of hatches during the day with a reasonable amount of olives and sedges, very few mayfly. There was little in the way of rising fish.
The river has been quite scoured by flooding since last year and I found that previously wadeable areas were a bit too risky.
Fished with an F fly to catch the fish caught, tried a GRHE nymph but to no avail, will be back next week, hopefully to find the trout are feeding well.

Fished 2-4.30, nice to see some fish rising at last on the Arrow. 2 at 9 inches on GBGRHE and 2 larger fish at 10 and 12 inches on dry Olive Klinkhammer.

Nil return, a little fly life but no evidence of trout. Perfect weather for fishing in the afternoon. Maybe the water temperature too low?

River quite high but warm at last. Little insect life and no trout interested yet. 2 large grayling prowling the shallows.

First chance to get out this season so spent a couple of hours on the top section only. Warm and bright with a light breeze. Persisted with selection of dry flies but saw sight nor sound of a fish and very little fly hatching. Only encouraging sign was a lot of fry in the warmer slacks.

Fishing:Winter Grayling

No. of Anglers:2

My "brother of the angle",(MS from Rubery) and I made a visit to try the traditional grayling method on this the penultimate day of the season. The river was at a perfect height for trotting a maggot (Titley Mill gauge was reading 0.27m) so we set to work!
We weren't the only anglers there since we "flushed" some piscivorous birds half-way down the beat, but they didn't catch the two silvery 14" brown trout and two 12" grayling that we did.
A delightful beat which perhaps will be enjoyed even more through the winter months by those of us that enjoy trotting on a small river. Thank you WUF.

Welcome to the Jungle baby! Apart from the first meadow, the beat is really exhausting. Never made it anywhere near the begining, perhaps the farmer will cut the sides of the fields soon. I like the overgrown cover on the banks, but stumbling through waist high jungle without a Machette to find the river was a challange! Managed one Grayling, one Brownie and lost two, all in the ten inch range, returned as usual to fight another day!
