Having fished the beat last month with plenty of fly life and no fish rising I planned to fish the afternoon and evening. However, after seeing the weather forecast I fished the morning into the afternoon. Plenty of flies hatching but only of couple of fish rising. Caught and released 5 trout all to a size 12 mayfly nymph.

Quite a poor day for fishing really. The weather was overcast and cloudy and rained profusely with heavy wind till about lunch time. It got brighter, but still quite windy in the afternoon.
I only saw 2 fish all day and had a bite from one of them, but didn't get it to the net. There was lots of flies coming off the water, including what appeared to be mayflies, but very little fish rising for them. An excellent days fishing albeit with poor weather, maybe I'll do better next time.

Running very clear with good hatch of stonefly and still a few mayfly about. Very little in the way of fish showing / rising despite the abundant fly life although only able to fish between 11:30am and 1:30pm. Small brown trout returned.

Cool and cloudy until about 3pm when the sun finally came out. Olives hatching throughout the session but mainly mid-afternoon and hardly any mayflies seen. About 5 trout seen rising one of which I caught on cdc dry fly (about 12 inches). Another one of about 10 inches was caught on a Copper John nymph by the weir.

A dissapointing day. Despite a good hatch of Mayflies (and Olives) 11am until 6pm, we only saw 4 fish rise the whole beat! One of these took an artificial and was netted (10"). We also fished the 'clink and dink' and a good fish was lost in the weir pool at the top end of the beat. Being our first visit we thought the river was fantastic with lots of 'fishy' lies and runs but reality on the day didn't match this.

Warmth at last. A good quantity of mayfly but a marked reluctance by the trout to take them. I only saw six fish rise all day. successful flies were the Iron Blue and a black Klinkhamer.

Nothing showing when we arrived and a dry fly was ignored. The first fish, about 7" came to a goldhead. There was a prolific hatch of mayflies and others which delighted the birds but the fish ignored. It was easy to believe that there were no fish in the river, which is very low, and we saw nothing move until after lunch. Saw five fish rise and caught one of them, about 12", on a mayfly.
It is a beautiful spot and if we had gone to take photographs, watch birds, or enjoy a delightful bit of the countryside, the day would have been counted a total success.
For any doubting Thomas's, there is a waterfall, but it is a long way up the river.

Nice warm day, lots of fly life including Mayflies but little or no surface feeding from the trout. Two trout to hand on weighted nymphs.

Went with my son, great day, sunny, river running clear, flies hatching but fish must have been on a day trip to Bristol. I did see one about 4 inches long leap out of the water but there was no sign of any other activity anywhere on the beat. Good lunch at the Stag helped the day along. Looks a nice stretch of water, will try it again sometime.

Good mayfly hatch. All fish caught on Grey Wulff (size 14). Best fish around 1 lb, but hooked and lost a much larger one.
