Great day at the brook; 24 trout between 5 -10 inches. All took a size 14 Klinkhammer, fished single due to the extremely low level of the brook. Majority of the fish came from slack water and required a stealthy approach. Insect were hatching throughout the late morning / early afternoon, mixed with occasional falling-terrestrial. There were only two rises to the hatches but the fish happily came up for the Klink, fished blind.
As expected for the bank holiday Monday, the public footpath was very busy with families walking, cycling, and walking the dogs. Majority were friendly and polite. Quite lucky to only have two dogs joining me in the water.

A few hours spent this evening on the Honddu. The water was up a bit, in some runs it was really pushing through. Great conditions for nymphing with a French leader. Lots of action with some surprisingly big fish about. Best 1lb 12oz, 2 x 1lb 1/4, 1 x 1lb 6oz (weighed in net) and numerous fish of between 9 and 12 inches.

It was a beautiful day to be out on the river. The water was at a good height and pretty clear. There were very few rising fish, despite quite a few blue olives and yellow may dunns. I did my usual trick of hooking loads of fish, several of them fairly large up to 3lb - and lost them all! I don't know what I'm doing wrong; I've lost about 20 large trout in the last few weeks.
But the big news has to be, once again, not a single salmon of any kind seen.

River 0.9m approx and brown, and dropping. Looked OK and started at a swim next to another angler who told me that these swims had produced a good number of barbel recently. Unfortunately not today! We both only caught one each and mine was only about 1lb ( nice to see though) and then nothing so we had to move. My next swim I know always holds barbel but again I struggled for the rest of the day with only one more barbel ( nice size approx. 9lb) and a chub . It did not help the sun shining down on all the river and straight in my face all morning . It was only when the clouds started coming over in the pm that I caught these fish but only over a very short period of time . Unfortunately I had to leave at 5.00pm and I know the fish often switch on here after 6.00pm.
Also the river was very brown and starting to speed up as it dropped increasing the boiling nature of the swims. This stretch is a pleasure to be on and even better in cloudy/wet weather , when the river is high( over 1 metre) and after 6.00pm!
