Arrived for a session after work at 5pm. Sadly my time on the beat was cut short by heavy rain and only fished for about an hour. Caught 2 fish, both around 7 inches, just downstream from the road bridge at the top of the beat. 1 very active wild brown trout and a lovely grayling. Both caught on a sz16 tan klinkhammer.

Arrived at 2pm and met another wild stream fisherman who arrived at the same time. Both happy to share the beat and a few fish rising which turned out to be grayling. Lovely few hours fishing the river.

As before on this beat I found consistently rising fish in just one pool, one of which succumbed to my mayfly. Otherwise a quiet (and perhaps too bright) afternoon until something large, agricultural and rather brutal arrived late in the day and set to clearing a strip along the banks. Stayed until sundown in the hope of more surface activity. There was a fall of small spinners and the occasional spent mayfly drifting past, but the temperature dropped and the trout stayed out of sight, except for a large one that nearly swam into my legs not far below the bridge.

A couple of hours in the afternoon with hatching olives and mayfly and rising trout in one pool that ignored everything I threw at them, probably fixated on olive emergers.

River a good height and running clear. No fly life seen. Fished nymphs at various depths and spiders but no takers.
Will have to try again once the water warms up a wee bit…

Left home at 07:30 with the temperature gauge showing 11C. River at a good level and running clear, ideal for trotting the deeper pools. Four good grayling and 1 out of season trout caught, and plenty of small grayling. Beautiful sunny afternoon made wearing neoprene waders a little warm.

First time to the Arrow. Lovely river to fish, plenty of shallow runs into deeper pools. Fished nymphs and bugs but could not locate any grayling today. Water running pretty clear so fish likely to have been easily spooked.
I’ll certainly be back in the spring.
